Staff columnist Julianna Steach explains that the reelection of Trump has led to IUDs being a main topic of girls’ nights, and the conversation is far more complicated than deciding what rom-com to watch.

Unfortunately, an unexpected pregnancy is currently my biggest fear, and it’s many of my friends’ biggest fears. We all just gained our independence. We’re not ready to give that up and sacrifice our last bit of youth, first taste of adulthood or career potential to devote our lives to raising...

Staff Writer Ore Fawole writes that “Gladiator II” benefits from strong performances and an entertaining viewing experience, but its derivative nature ultimately buckles under the weight comparisons of the original.

Twenty-four years ago, audiences held bated breath as a tortured Russell Crowe roared “Are you not entertained?” to a thunderous crowd of Romans as slain gladiators lay bleeding around his feet. Nearly a quarter-century later, the quote from “Gladiator” still reverberates around our popular ...

Staff writer Sage Rosenfeld reviews “Anora,” a film about a stripper’s niche love life and involvement with members of the Russian Oligarchy, which left her tearing up and at a loss for words.

“Anora” is a new, joyfully confusing, action-packed film from writer, editor and director Sean Baker. I had no expectations before watching this film and walked out of the theater completely stunned. “Anora,” a film about a stripper’s niche love life and involvement with members of the Rus...

A little-known wide receiver is making a new name for himself in Pittsburgh — and lighting up opponents as he does it.

Wide receiver Ben Skowronek hasn’t had it easy during the last year. A former seventh-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, Skowronek had the luck of getting drafted by the team that would win the Super Bowl that year. Despite his modest contributions of 13 total catches for 145 yards, Skowr...

Although Cat Flood doesn’t star in a pivotal role for Pitt volleyball, she makes a clear difference for the No. 1 team.

Pitt volleyball threw a party in February 2024 — a random day for a team that plays in the fall to celebrate, but fitting to recognize one of Pitt volleyball’s most influential players. February was the month serving specialist Cat Flood announced she would return to Pitt for her final season of...

Based on the recent spike in Black Friday spending, the Pitt News Editorial Board takes a step back and determines whether the economy is really all that bad.

In a country whose average reading level isn’t above a sixth-grade level, our collective understanding of economic nuance fits on the back of a Target receipt. We must ask the question — was the economy really that bad?

This week, The Pitt News Sports Desk talks NFL playoff odds for Pennsylvania’s two juggernauts and breakout play from Philly’s Jared McCain.

The Chiefs are running on luck // Ashley O’Doherty, Staff Writer It’s no surprise that the back-to-back Superbowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs, have one of the best records in the NFL. This season, however, looks a little different for the seemingly unstoppable Chiefs of 2023-2024. Despite sti...

Finals week is here for students at the University of Pittsburgh, and Pitt’s fall sports teams return report cards with As … and Cs.

For some, the start of finals week means spending hours upon hours studying for exams and working on projects, pulling all-night cram sessions and drinking enough caffeine to drown an elephant. For Pitt’s student-athletes, this period marks the end of their regular seasons of play — when they ex...

With winter approaching, Pittsburgh’s weather remains uncertain due to a developing La Niña, which typically brings cooler conditions but may lead to more variability this year. Experts note that while La Niña can drive extreme weather patterns worldwide, the effects of climate change are also becoming more pronounced.

This year, the University will operate under a revised final exam schedule, with undergraduate classes meeting for regular sessions until Tuesday, December 10, and exams beginning on Wednesday, December 11 and ending on Tuesday, December 17. This change was made due to a later start to the fall semester and longer fall break for students left less time to conclude classes and exams.

Multiple students have expressed dissatisfaction with this year’s finals schedule, as many will still be learning new material just days before exams, have less time to study and have to adjust travel plans. Others fear that students who have later exams have an unfair advantage, as they will have...

Leading up to the release of the film adaptation of one of Broadway’s biggest shows, lead Ariana Grande faced a barrage of online hate and skepticism. Contributing editor Grace Longworth argues that judgments against her reflect the double standards female artists face to prove themselves.

Grande completely exceeded my expectations and the expectations of critics. So why have so many corners of the internet continued to tear her performance apart over a week after the film’s release?

Contributing editor Srinidhi Gopalan argues that Democrats should pay careful attention to shifts right in blue states and cities for future elections.

Recent election results in such states have raised eyebrows nationwide, suggesting a deeper shift in voter sentiment rooted in overlooked local issues, demographic changes and evolving political attitudes. Why did so many voters abandon the Democratic Party, and what does this say about the shifting...
