Here’s your reminder to set the early alarm. It’s worth it.

Unedited shots from a sunrise hike at Churchill Valley Greenway, one of my favorite local spots (which is apparently a hot take bc every time I post about it I get messages like “why?!” 😂)

This park used to be a golf course! It is so cool to me to see how nature has really taken over.

Thank you to for all the work you’ve done to improve and maintain this amazing green space!!

Buttermilk Falls is one of my all time favorite waterfalls in Pennsylvania! It’s so beautiful AND you can walk behind it. Fun fact: it was on land formerly owned by Mr. Roger’s grandfather - making it an iconic Pennsylvania landmark.

✨Unfiltered Oil Creek Backpacking ✨

Had a blast doing 27 miles over 3 days in Oil Creek this weekend. Here are some unfiltered photos from our adventure

🥾Swinging Bridge is absolutely worth the visit
🥾A very official weight comparison between homemade dehydrated Pad Thai and Pad Thai
🥾Stoked that I remembered my spork bc I couldn’t remember packing it and was thinking my (clean never used…but still) 💩 shovel was going to be my best dinner utensil option
🥾The one part of the trail that wasn’t single track, muddy, or a ton of elevation gain
🥾The face when you had a tent site but managed to snag a shelter due to cancellations and it’s thunderstorming
🥾Caught being my type A capricorn eldest daughter self
🥾Heather has no patience for invasive species
🥾Sucker for a historic train station
🥾Post hike pizza that I am honestly surprised made a photo before being chugged

I loved this park! It was the second time I visited but first time I backpacked. Highly recommend adding to your state park bucket list.

⚠️ remember to leave no trace when camping including packing out all your trash and staying on trail! ⚠️

What would YOU eat with if you forgot your spork?

A love letter to my city…

Today I read Molly Campe’s essay about Pittsburgh and it made my heart explode with little black and gold confettis.

Because she hits its spot on - Pittsburgh is so special because of the PEOPLE who live here.

I haven’t lived here for very long – we still haven’t even hit three years - but my life here in the last 2.5 years has been nothing short of amazing because of all the awesome people I’ve met. Pittsburgh is based on community - people who care and ask how you’re doing and are interested in the things that you’re interested in even if they’re not interested in them.

Here are some of my favorite pictures I’ve taken while living here, but really you should all go read Molly‘s essay which I’ve linked in my story to truly capture the feeling of how special Pittsburgh is.

UNFILTERED ECLIPSE WEEKEND

If you had asked me even yesterday if I cared about being in eclipse totality, tbh probably wouldn’t have cared that much.

But my friend Cara flew in from ARIZONA to see it because eclipse totality was on her bucket list so I booked a campsite at Pymatuming State Park and off we went!

This was one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced and it meant so much to me to be able to see it in my home state in the park system that I love so much with my bestie 🥹 🥹

1. Watching it get dark around the lake was insane
2. TOTALITY
3. A blurry selfie of me crying my eyes out because it was so moving
4. Cara living her best space nerd life
5. Tom was not impressed
6. A perfect setup
7. First time camping in my “new” car (got it over 2 years ago) and man have I missed out (immediately books more adventures)
8. Cara checking the cloud forecast for the 8263684th time
9. Sunset at pymatuming lake
10. The text that started it all…

Is totality on your bucket list?!

First PA backpacking trip of the year in the books!

Raccoon Creek is great for an overnighter if you’re close to Pittsburgh and short on time.

Here are my 10 fav shots from the trip ➡️

1. Come backpacking with me, I’m the peak of fashion
2. A cozy shelter, fire courtesy of
3. Definitely not freezing here. Definitely not
4. The trail provides….new friends!!
5. Into the woods 🌲
6. If you ever thought you needed an ultralite umbrella…here’s your reason
7. Frankfort Mineral Springs 💦
8. Just maybe don’t zoom in on my face
9. When you get back in the car at the end of the hike and realize your lost hand sani was in the passenger door the whole time
10. Appetizer sampler from is just the thing to warm up

Special shout out to Dave who said he “might” come backpacking with me again even tho I slept for 13 hours and misjudged how much it was gonna rain 🤦‍♀️

Ugh it’s that time of year!

If you’re outdoorsy in this part of the country, it’s not a matter of IF a tick will attach, it’s a matter of WHEN!!

It’s been a warm winter so ticks will be out in full force before you know it 🤮

I HIGHLY recommend - their process to get a tick tested was so easy and fast when my husband had one attached last year. Their website and socials also have a lot of great info about tick prevention and identification.

Send this post to your hiking/camping/gardening/outdoor pet loving friends!

UNFILTERED SEDONA

1. Made it to the iconic Devil’s Bridge
2. Love it when strangers nail the shot
3. Meeting friends of friends is my favorite
4. Airport sunset - the social media version
5. Airport sunset - reality (eating dinner on the ground surrounded by people and freezing)
6. Survived our mountain bike tour with limited bleeding
7. Yes of course I brought my favorite snack to the desert
8. Travel with your friends who match your energy 💕
9. Nothing hits after a long day of travel like pizza
10. Just happy Heather didn’t sm0ther me in my sleep for making her get up for sunrise 2/3 days of our trip

⚠️ when exploring Sedona and all other natural places, remember to follow principles of Leave No Trace - especially important to stay off the desert crust which is alive and takes DECADES to recover from a single step ⚠️

I’ve gotten a couple DMs about “you travel so much!” and part of the reason is that I was freaking depressed last winter (the Pittsburgh gray reeeaaaallly got to me). So yes, while it seems like I travel a lot, reminder that social media is a highlight reel and this winter I have prioritized my money and time to do things that I know help me break me out of my dark spirals like traveling to places with sunshine with friends who ground me.

Are you adding Sedona to your bucket list?

🔦 Would you explore this abandoned tunnel?!

Located in Rockland, PA this former railroad tunnel is now part of a bike trail.

Tips for Visiting
🔦 BRING A LIGHT - trust me - you need it
🚙 Make sure to park in the proper parking lot - there’s a decent amount of private driveways around.
🥾Visit nearby Freedom Falls and Rockland Furnace, less than a mile away

➡️ SAVE for a perfect spring hike!

The Wildflower Reserve at Raccoon Creek is one of the best spring hikes in Western PA! This reserve has over 700 types of flowers - including rare flowers.

I recommend going with someone who knows their flowers (like my friend Hannah!) I learned so much in a short 3 mile hike.

🌸 best time to visit for spring bloom is end of April to beginning of May, depending on weather conditions

⚠️ as always but ESPECIALLY HERE please do not pick flowers, go off trail, or otherwise violate principles of Leave No Trace ⚠️

Are you adding the Wildflower Reserve to your spring hiking list?
