Another favorite long-gone ride from Kennywood. The Turnpike!

Kennywood Park introduced the Turnpike ride in 1966, offering visitors a nostalgic journey. Originally featuring gasoline-powered cars, it later transitioned to electric vehicles for a quieter ride experience.

Located just to the right of the park's main entrance, this ride was a beloved feature until its decommissioning in 2010 to make way for the Sky Rocket roller coaster.

Despite promises of its return in another location, as of recent years, the Turnpike has yet to make a comeback. The ride's history is a testament to Kennywood's evolution while keeping its charm intact.

This is the ride I miss the most at Kennywood. Who else remembers the thrill of the Log Jammer’s spillway drop?

Opened in 1975, it was Kennywood’s first million-dollar ride and gave us all that heart-racing splash!

Sadly, it took its final plunge in 2017 to make way for the Steel Curtain. Who else misses this classic?

Back in the day, the biggest roadblock wasn’t some bridge construction—it was a line of streetcars clogging up Oakland.

Trolleys were once the backbone of the 'Burgh, running 99 lines over 600 miles of track at their peak. Loved for convenience, hated by auto owners (sound familiar, PAT bus riders?), these streetcars had it all—crowds, gossip, smoking, and the occasional daredevil trying to squeeze their way off at their stop.

But progress rolls on, and eventually, the trolley tracks made way for more roads, more cars, and more… traffic. Funny how things come full circle—now we’re cozying up to rail lines again with the T. Think Pittsburgh should bring back more trolleys? Or are you good with buses and tunnels?

Before corporate radio and playlists decided by algorithms, there was Pork the Tork—Craig ‘Porky’ Chedwick, the Daddio of the Raddio.

In 1948, he broke barriers on Pittsburgh’s airwaves, spinning the real R&B records while other stations played watered-down covers. He didn’t care about critics—he cared about the music.

From filling Downtown streets with 50,000 fans to rocking Three Rivers Stadium with a 10-minute ovation, Porky wasn’t just a DJ—he was a movement. A true pioneer who made Pittsburgh the birthplace of rhythm & soul on the radio.
