All four of my grandparents came as steerage passengers from Poland through Ellis Island and endured the labels of ”Dumb Pollack” and the prejudices of white Americans 110 years ago, finding safety and solidarity in Eastern European communities in WV, OH, Detroit (in Hamtramick where the Polish spoke jive and the black Americans spoke Polish ) and likewise in Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and Minneapolis with large Polish Ukrainian and Slavic populations to this day. Shame on anyone American who forgets that only Native indigenous people can claim heritage on this land. All the rest alive right now came from immigrant forefathers.

As I continue to write the and chapter of Homeless in Minneapolis by living among them out of my truck doing what we homeless call “rubber tramping” yesterday was rough.. napping in my hammock between two hundred year old pines at Oglebay Park. The hobo vagabond lunch was sliced salted tomatoes, brioche bun nuggets, buffalo and fried chicken nuggets and an apple pie strudel all from scratch of Wheeling. Even if you are not rubber tramping homeless and just on an extended with the right skills it’s awesome and except for gas money almost free to do..,
