After President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation (1863), some slaves were not freed until TWO years later, particularly in the western side of Texas when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas (1865) announcing the executive order. America period is a proud community sponsor for the 2024 Juneteeth celebration organized by the collaborative efforts of the Washington Branch NAACP and Lemoyne Community Center in the City of Washington, Pennsylvania. Matt Staniszewski aka Matt Sweets interviews Steve Woods, a co-organizer, of the upcoming weekend's activities.
The celebration will take place this Saturday, June 15th, from 10:30AM to 7:00PM in the City of Washington. Admission is free and ALL, from throughout the region, are invited to join. A parade will start at 10:30AM along the route of Walnut Street, Highland Avenue, and Lincoln Avenue to arrive at the Lemoyne Multicultural Center (200 North Forrest Avenue, Wash, PA 15301) for activities to start at 11:00AM. City of Washington Mayor, JoJo Burgess, and East Washington Mayor, Demond Nixon, will be honored as the ceremonial marshals for the parade.
The day includes family & children activities, food trucks, live music, dance performances, DJ Dee Edwards throughout the day, drum performances, basketball shootout, history sessions, prayer & choir, service organizations on site, and more!

It is BYOB if that's something you're looking into, and there is a very minimal cost of doing so (far more affordable than buying at a restaurant). Plus, they don't limit BYOB to wine. The 404 will even post some of their specials and ideas, welcoming individuals to help come up with creative combinations. That being said, they also provide a wide range in their "mocktail" menu for those who choose other options.
Featured in this interview are Prawn Gnocchi, scallop and crab fried rice, and an amazing pasta dish (Pasta San Genaro). EVERYTHING was very filling, and had amazing flavor profiles.

BIG things are coming out of Uniontown PA announces Bump Johnson, co-owner of GHP (Gyros, Hoagies & Pierogies). With over 20 years of industry experience, GHP features many made-from-scratch dishes, family recipes, comfort foods, soups, desserts, and more! ...and did we mention gyros, hoagies and pierogies? America Period host, Matt Staniszewski AKA Matt Sweets, ventured over to Uniontown Pennsylvania (524-F Morgantown Street) to meet with his long time friend, Bump, and see for himself, as he promised.
Mind you, Matt is quite Polish, so pierogies were at the top of the list to try. The results are in! According to the foodie, they rank either as one of the best, or the best, he has had (EDITOR'S NOTE: He apologizes to his Aunt Anita). Already, GHP has participated in regional competitions and quickly rising in the ranks as a force. While indulging in delicious pierogies, Matt also had to sample the grape leaves. They equally were deemed "delicious."

Erin Koper, Chairwoman of the Allegheny County Council of Republican Women - ACCRW & the Elliot Community Group, sits down with Matt Staniszewski AKA Matt Sweets, host of America period, to share the great strides the party has made in the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, a heavily Democratic area of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Some goals include educating Republican women, empowering women's conservative voices, and cultivating women to run for public office. Through the team's work, they have also accomplished several bipartisan initiatives, particularly at the local level in areas of public safety, charitable organizations, community cleanups, and connecting with city officials regularly, to name a few.
Coming from a long line of Democrat family members and growing up in the "union town" of Weirton West Virginia, Koper has always considered herself a conservative and realized her values are more aligned with Republican values. Since then, Koper has remained committed to improving communities, engaging individuals, and strengthening the party's presence throughout the county. In addition to her work with several local and congressional campaigns, Koper is also a Pittsburgh GOP Committee Woman, and continues to seek volunteers, candidates, voter registration, and get out and vote campaigns, for example.
Koper comes from a broadcast news and journalism background, and continues to be a contributor on many political TV and radio shows such as KDKA TV with Jon Delano, KDKA Radio with Lenny McAllister, The Elephant in the Room radio show on WJAS, One America News Network, and more. She is well-known for her tenacity and "get-things-done" attitude, which has helped in her successes.
