In addition to the work the bigs are doing in their Brave Writer Critical Thinking workbooks (https://amzn.to/3CjHRt3), Heather Cox Richardson has been added as assigned reading in our homeschool.

Every night, we come to the table with two questions to discuss/research together.

Listen, I don't know all the answers, but I do know that education is a form of resistance and if I have the chance to do one more thing in this life, I hope it's being a part of raising revolutionary children.

They deserve it. We all do.

Elias: "Papa, what's Ho***rs?"
Chris: "It's a chicken restaurant where all the servers are women and they dress a particular way."
Elias: "What do they dress like? Chickens?"

Lillian upon returning home after a taste of 70° weather in Georgia yesterday -

"Oooh! We can put out the fall decorations after cleanup. OOOOH!! AND I CAN PUT PINE AND CINNAMON IN THE OIL DIFFUSER." 🎃🍂

(We evacuated to Macon, GA. It was a lovely silver lining to While we have a lot of storm cleanup to do outside, we feel extremely lucky to have minimal damage.)

While I've worked so hard to make the most of every moment with these people I love, I've spent more time disabled in bed than I've spent out of it over the last few months.

It's been harder on all of us that I can begin to explain. And my heart is still hopeful for answers.

This morning, I submitted a request for an appointment at the Mayo Clinic. As hard as that is to type out, I'm ready. And also, I've met my deductible for the year. 🙃

Thanks for being here. I'll try my hardest to keep you in the loop as I'm able. XO

Then and now, the birthday edition.

The more things change, the more they stay the same - at least when it comes to his love of food. Happy 12th birthday to this special kiddo.

Invest well, kid and keep growing in body and spirit. (Also, please always tolerate my birthday breakfast pictures. Please? 🥹🤞❤️)

Baby's First Blazer (for her first dog show!!) 🥹❤️

It was a big weekend for this sweet kiddo and I'm so proud of her for trying new things.

We went tent camping with our co-op a few weeks back and, tbh, it was a bit of a disaster.

There were meltdowns, sooooo many bug bites, eloping kids, dangerous choices around the fire, and the threat of thunderstorms - which ultimately led to us making the decision to pack up camp early.

I'm glad that we went and even more glad that I have some photos of our happiest moments.

Hopefully, we got all the hard parts out of our system before we try it again with friends in May. 🤞🤞

Now that my back is serviceable and the rain has passed, we're back to exploring. And when I learned about a free indoor/outdoor living history museum with live demonstrations, I knew it had to be our next stop.

The Gabuzda kids 10/10 recommend a visit. We'll definitely be back to check it out again with the free guided audio tour and a walk through the House of Seven Gables.

This sweet and spicy kiddo is two hands old today. She loves animals, forging her own path, baking sweet treats in the kitchen, music, video games, testing boundaries, and being unapologetically herself.

I can't believe that she's double digits, but she's been rushing to be grown since before she could crawl. Slow down, baby. You're the best Eleanor and I just want to soak in every moment with you.

After a long season of transition (we've been in Florida for 10 months now!), I think that everyone is in a place where they're ready to settle down and dig deeper in their learning.

Yesterday marked the addition of new classes to our homeschool lineup - musical theater, art, an adulting class and even a social gaming meetup. Lillian has plans to try out for the swim team, and we plan to continue with playground meetups and homeschool co-op in February.

It's a lot tbh, but...we have a lot of kids and we're also a lot, so....here we go! 🙃

Summers are so brutal here, but this! This is the weather that dreams are made of!

We're soaking in as much time outside as possible (between these El Niño storms 🫠) and, even though we REALLY miss the snow, it's hard to be sad when the sun is shining.

We're dreaming of a new year filled with delicious food, more movement, deep connection, new adventures, and a government that funds healthcare instead of genocide.

Happy 2024. May there be many better days ahead for us all. ❤️

The end of Chanukah marks the beginning of watercolor thank you notes at our house.

We have some kind of bug, but I'm crossing my fingers that painting keeps them busy today between cat naps and too much Hilda on Netflix.

Are you staying well? I'm starting to worry that we caught every germ at Legoland last week.

Apparently, 9 year olds in 2023 look like 14 year olds did in 1996. And I have a lot of feelings about it.
