Isopod feature day! I don't often talk about some of the unsual pets and beneficial bugs we have around the lab. Today, I want to feature one of my underrated hard workers, Porcellio laevis, the dairy cow isopod. The cute little buggers are a great clean up crew. Combined with some springtails, they will keep your vivarium / terrarium squeaky clean.
This video was taken right after these guys got set up in a new tub, so they were super photogenic.

A cool example of some of the mutations that naturally occur in plants amplified by the tissue culture process. Somaclonal variation can cause changes in leaf shape, as well as the size and even the color of the plant. Most mutations are not stable and revert over time, some stabilize are give us new species to appreciate. The Monstera Thai Constellation is a species that came from somaclonal variation of monstera deliciosa tissue culture stock.
Anyways enjoy this Alocasia Bambino Albo popping this cool double leaf, it also seems to have lost most of its variegation. Pretty nonetheless.
