One of my personal top 10 ever. The Teaser album was poorly produced and the intro to this song was very quiet so I've beefed it up a bit.

So...word is spreading, and my friends are coming by to say "Hi!"

Last time Jacoby & I hung, we argued over the best Faith No More album. This time, he came to ask if Papa Roach could come crash 98 Rock's "Concerts in the Park" this Friday night @ Cesar Chavez Park in Downtown Sacramento? (Of course they can!) Did I mention it's a FREE SHOW??

So, plan to get there early. It's going to shut down Sacramento on a Friday night. See you there!!!!

Oh, and they're working to help out Sacramento chapter of The American Foundation for Su***de Prevention. If you can help, please donate at https://afsp.org/chapter/greater-sacramento

Please help if you can.

How’s your day going? Originally scheduled for 7:28pm. Thanks for the voucher for a hotel stay a half hour away, in the hood, and the $12 meal voucher that can only be used in the airport. That Snickers was delicious.

Week 1 in the books…

Learning an entirely new system. The facilities are superior to anything I’ve ever experienced. The people have been every bit as welcoming, and helpful as I could’ve ever hoped for. The station (as I’ve always maintained) is what every Rock station should aspire to be. It’s tailored to the city it serves. It understands that the music and people who invite you to listen are a symbiotic entity. Intertwined to create an inclusive environment…that offers an exclusive experience.

It’s where I belong.

I would never disparage any situation experienced in my professional career (Except one. I worked at a station that imaged itself as “Renaissance Rock.” What? They still owe me one night’s pay). That said, I was happy here 20 years ago. I’m happy here now. This was the right call.

Northern California isn’t like everywhere else. It has its own stank…and I say that with love. Sacramento radio is well done. All of it. I’m not just talking about my station, or our sister stations. This is an area where everyone is executing on a level that listeners are getting great stuff. Whatever the style of music you enjoy, there’s something for everyone. That makes the challenges more challenging, and the goal…more inviting.

As far as our station? I’m playing everything from Metallica, Offspring, Zeppelin, and Foo Fighters…to Eminem, House of Pain, and DMX. It’s so much fun.

So…this is where I’ll be TFN. Going to be a fun run for sure!

(I know this board doesn’t have any faders up. It’s offline. That’s one of the cool things. We have 7 Studios. None are dedicated. I can go into any one of them, and 8 steps later, be on any one of our stations. It’s intimidating. 🙂)

The alarm is set. When 4am comes, I will once again sit on the end of the bed…head in hands…wondering what I’m doing up so f’n early.

It begins tomorrow: 6am Pacific. I have no plan. Gonna do what I do, and hope Sacramento enjoys.

I have always loved this station. Never wanted to leave. Glad to be back. Thankful for the opportunity.

You can listen too! See you in the morning!

As a lot have reached out, I’ll give you the latest: The company/station I’m heading to is planning a coordinated press release on 6/4. To answer a few questions:

I was not fired. There is no acrimony. This was my choice.

Yes, I’ll still be on the air.
No, it is not in Phoenix.
Yes, you will be able to stream the show from anywhere.
No, I am not ignoring your messages, or calls. My Phoenix cell number was a work phone. It is no longer operational.

I’m sorry I haven’t been interactive. It is a hectic time, and lots of wheels are in motion. Thank you for all of the words of encouragement. I’m trying to respond to everyone ASAP.

Good things are ahead. Please enjoy your long weekend safely, and remember why you have Monday off.

Toss one on for The Fallen! -NP

Record Producers make your favorite bands sound better. They cover up the flaws, and flubs. The right Producer is the difference between garbage & a Grammy. If you heard some of the raw tracks, from some of your favorite albums, you'd really appreciate the touch the right Producer has. They're artists in their own right.

Steve Albini was a master.

He maintained the integrity of the artist's work. Preferred to record bands "live in studio" as much as possible, and eschewed the overuse of digital technology in favor of creating unique recordings that showcased nuance.

Music has lost a true genius.

61 is way too young.

And so, after almost 15 years, the time has come. The internal announcement has been made, and I guess it’s OK to half-spill what’s been happening.

I’ve always said that it would take a *very* special gig to get me to leave Phoenix - a place I have lived, and loved, since the moment I arrived. I can’t yet say where I’m headed, but I *can* say that my last day on the air at KSLX, will be Friday.

To the folks at Hubbard Radio; I thank you so much for everything. I have enjoyed my time under your broadcast tent. From programming the legendary KDKB, to becoming the #1 Morning Show in Phoenix Radio when the show ended. It has been a pleasure to spend the longest run/most successful experience of my career working together. You’re a class organization, and it is with a mixture of gratitude and sadness that I say goodbye.

My next endeavor is one of those challenges that I live for. It’s a great station, in a great place to live. I promise I’ll say more ASAP.

Lastly, and most importantly, *THANK YOU!* for listening.

We sit in a room. We make jokes, and comments, and tell stories, and try our best to make a connection. It’s only because you listen that it works. I have always tried to remember that it’s not about me. It’s always about you. You have the choice whether to listen. It’s your station. I just push buttons. No show works…without an audience.

Stay tuned…

It's a *little early* for a Wolfgang Van Halen "Behind The Music."

That said, it was well done. The kid is screwed no matter what he does. He's the son of the greatest guitarist since Hendrix. Talent will never eclipse his lineage. He's kicking water uphill. The two records are significantly better than a lot of what's trendy today, but...expectations are unfair for him.

He comes from a *very* dysfunctional background. Sure, his parents are famous, and he never wanted for anything.

They were also heavily into drugs & alcohol. Repeatedly absentee for a period of time during his developmental years divorced during that time, and each one came from their own dysfunctional background. Which, always gets transferred to the kids. Intentional, or not.

He's an ultra talented kid. I'm sure he's trying to break the cycle of trauma. Anyone who's ever come from that environment should understand that.

I wish him well. I hope he can get healthy. Both mentally & physically. He's definitely got issues he's working through. Like his parents, he seems likeable. He appears to have a good head on his shoulders.

It was well done. Albeit a bit early. His career is only beginning. -NP

I've never purchased anything from Sam Ash. Growing up, we had a couple of amazing local music stores in Boston. Either Daddy's J***y Music, or EU Wurlitzer were the biggies, and then, the smaller shops, like Cambridge Music, were the places to find great vintage stuff. I recall seeing vintage Strats & Les Pauls for

As I was shuffling AIC this morning, this came up. Layne was already dead when they performed on this night. He wasn't there. Still...He delivered an *amazing* performance.

Having sung some of his stuff, and failing to attempt others, I don't know that he's ever truly received the credit he deserves for his vocal prowess. The range was substantial, tone, fantastic.

And the power? Go ahead and try to sing "feed my eyes" from "Man In The Box," in key. Yeah...it's not as easy as he made it sound.

He had the intangible dynamics that most vocalists can only dream of.

I. love. this. band.
