She wasn’t supposed to be there. We can’t control anything but our own actions and behavior. Her mother said that her daughter wasn't supposed to be in New Orleans, and that she had sneaked over for the night with her 18-year-old cousin and a friend.

"I just want to see my baby," her mother Melissa Dedeaux, 40, told NOLA.com. "She was the sweetest person. She would give you anything, anything."

Pennsylvania's $7.25 an hour minimum wage hasn't increased since 2009. That's no increase in the state's minimum wage in 15 years.

Yet, as noted by the Associated Press, in 2025, "lawmakers, judges and top executive branch officials will get a heftier salary increase in 2025 than the average Pennsylvanian saw over the past 12 months."

A new law will see, the Associated Press claimed, "more than 1,300 officials — including Gov. Josh Shapiro, all 253 lawmakers and all seven state Supreme Court justices" get a pay increase of about 3.4% in 2025.

He’s savvy, smart and gifted at working a room and the community. Temple University President Fry knows and understands the politics of a university located in an urban marketplace. Temple has failed in so many ways to engage the community and who doesn’t understand the naysayers and endless protesting about growth or forward progress. Does Temple University have an obligation? Yes, it should be championing the educational pursuits of all the young people residing in neighborhood surrounding the university. Perhaps the Cecil B. Moore scholarship is perfect way to build a solid relationship.

Temple needs another Mr. Anderson. Someone to connect the university to the community and organization like OIC of America. Let’s not be naive and believe that all of the successful initiatives that Mr. Fry have been associated with have been warmly received by community. He learned at Penn and Drexel to say less. West Philadelphia residents have long complained about the takeover of Penn Alexander and the police actions in West by Penn Police. Universities like Penn, Drexel and Temple should be assets to the community not an albatross. Embrace the change that has started with President Epps and continues with President Fry. Where is the next Thomas Anderson?
