Episode 3 features Peggy Battin, a philosopher, bioethicist, researcher, and writer, who does work around the ethics of dying, including su***de and physician-assisted dying. Her husband Brooke, who became quadriplegic after a bicycle accident, died in 2013 after he requested removal of life support.
In this episode, we talked about Peggy’s history of grief, how the loss of her mother set her down a path to find out what it means to have a “good death,” how losing Brooke was an echo of losing her mom, and how life and professional interests collide.
We recorded this episode several months back, and I'm just getting to publishing it. It's been... a long spring/summer. I'm thrilled to share this episode, though, because Peggy is one of the most fascinating people I know and I'm so lucky to call her a friend.
