This is Phil Thomas, co-host of What Are You Afraid Of? I wanted to let you all know that the Kindle version of my book, The Poe Predicament, is up for pre-order on Amazon!! Paperback pre-order coming soon! It is being released on October 4, 2021, from Foundations Books. I would appreciate anyone's support. Here is a brief summary and link to the Amazon page:
Stuck in another time, Richard Langley just wants to find his way back home.
Richard is a former college professor, wandering a local neighborhood bookstore, where he stumbles upon the find of a lifetime: a signed copy of Tamerlane and other poems.
He is soon swept to another era where he is alone and lost.
While struggling to adapt to his nineteenth-century environment, Richard meets a man he must help exonerate from false accusations in order to restore history's original timeline and, ultimately, find his way back to modern-day New York City.
What Richard did not count on, was that man being the owner of the signature—Edgar Allan Poe.

To celebrate Women in Horror Month, we interview Lydia Kang, author of O***m & Absinthe.

To celebrate Women in Horror Month, hosts T. Fox Dunham and Phil Thomas chat with author, physician, baker and researcher Dr. Lydia Kang. Lydia is the author of the O***m and Absinthe, a novel that tells the story of a wealthy young New York heiress who investigates a series of vampire-like killings after the first publication of Dracula. English folksinger David Walton narrates an excerpt from the book, then she shares her insights into writing characters, researching historic settings and even a strange experience she had in a cemetery. To finish the show, Lydia talks about the strange history of medicine, a topic she writes about in her book Quackery. People really did grind up mummies for medicinal powder and believed mercury was a magical elixir.

What Are You Afraid Of? returns after a winter sabbatical, and we’ve got some great episodes planned.

EPISODE 152: THE MORTUARY INTERVIEW with Ryan Spindell (Writer and Director of The Mortuary Collection)

To finish off our Halloween 2020 celebration, horror author T. Fox Dunham interviewed writer and director Ryan Spindell, the mad genius who wrote and directed Shudder’s new horror film, The Mortuary Collection. This anthology movie tells the story of karmic punishment of evil and the nature of the storyteller. The story harks back to the days when horror had a bit of camp but was ultimately fun. After attending film school in Florida, Ryan relocated to California where he established Trapdoor Pictures to produce the ‘fun genre’. He draws his influences from 80’s horror film and authors such as Ray Bradbury, Stephen King and Kurt Vonnegut. He chats with Fox about how horror films have evolved and what makes good horror. Horror is coming home! He also chats about the process of filming The Mortuary Collection and his collaborations with Evil Dead director, Sam Raimi.

David Walton narrates a true ghost story that was written and researched by T. Fox Dunham. The Little Girl that Still Plays at Rockford House tells the story of a cursed family that bought land in Lancaster, Pennsylvania after the American Revolution to build a home. Ghosts still roam the house today. And T. Fox Dunham and Phil Thomas talk about their Halloween run of episodes, their favorite Halloween candy and what movies they’re going to enjoy this Halloweekend. The Mortuary Collection is number one on their list. Thanks for the exploding . . . organ, Ryan! Happy Halloween and a Happy Samhain to all.

EPISODE 151: HAUNTED WORLD OF MICHELLE BELANGER

For a treat, authors T. Fox Dunham & Phil Thomas chat with paranormal investigator and psychic, Michelle Belanger. Most widely recognized for her work as a psychic on A&E's Paranormal State and Osbourne Media's Portals to Hell, Michelle is an occult expert, educator, media personality, and author of over thirty books on paranormal and occult topics. Not only does Michelle share her unique insights on the nature of ghosts, inhuman spirits and the causes of hauntings, but she also tells Fox and Phil about some of her scariest experiences including the night a dark force tormented her while she slept when she spent the night at a hotel where a depraved serial killer used to work.

In addition to her stories of the paranormal, they discuss the pagan holiday of Samhain, and Fox even sings the 'Pumpky Night Song'—an old English folk song sung this time of year.

Come and get some scary for Halloween 2020!

NEW EPSIODE 150: LORE WITH DACRE STOKER

Dacre Stoker, great grand-nephew of Dracula author Bram Stoker, joins authors T. Fox Dunham and Phil Thomas to talk about those creatures of the night, vampires. An author and scholar of all things vampyr, Stoker has written the only official prequel, Dracul with author J.D. Barker, based on years of research into the files and history of Bram Stoker. Dacre shares his insights into vampire lore and reveals interesting details about the book; for example, Bram Stoker had originally written a different and explosive ending to the book that would have changed how we viewed his celebrated story.

British folksinger David Walton narrates an excerpt from Stoker’s prequel, and the hosts are proud to offer a new story from premier horror author, Deborah Drake. The Vampire’s First Rule, narrated by T. Fox Dunham & Cindy Hermann, tells the story of an ancient conflict between two vampires that finally ends in the sacred cave of the Eternal Half-Lighters. Then to finish the show, Dacre shares a true ghost story about his encounter with a bishop’s ghost that haunts the cellars of Marsh’s Library in Dublin, Ireland.

We’re celebrating Halloween from home in 2020. To help you get into the Halloween spirit, we’ve brought you mediums, zombies, vampires and soon ghosts and demons.
