“Garden of Resilience” is a short experimental series directed, produced, and shot by @kaylastarthompson as part of our [INC]ubator project. Here are some bits and pieces.
With this project I wanted to express true female emotion through experimental imagery and editing. Throughout my history in videography and photography, I have always felt that you can say more with fewer words. I have always preferred experimental filmmaking because I express myself the best visually. This is a topic that is very close to me and I chose to use a series of girls to highlight that this is not only my experience, but the experience of females all around the world who sometimes need to lose themselves to find themselves again. I made this project for them, for my friends who have struggled alongside me, and for myself, who discovered a lot through the process of filming this project.
My time at JTWO has taught me so much about myself as a filmmaker, and given me so many opportunities to showcase my skills and jump into new environments. Starting a new internship can be nerve racking but here at JTWO I got the chance and trust to operate side by side with the team. Working alongside knowledgeable people in the industry helped me grow my own potential as well as see possibilities….

“Little Places” a short film set designed, directed, and produced by @tessamartinko as part of our [INC]ubator project.
When I was younger I was always drawn in by films that had creative or whimsical set design. My nose was always buried in a fantasy or sci-fi book, constantly imagining what the world the characters lived in looked like. Through the [INC]ubator project I was able to try my own hand at making my dream realities come true. At first, this project was a daunting challenge I didn’t know how to start. Nonetheless after spending hours on my bedroom floor covered in paint, getting burned by my hot glue gun, and vacuuming up endless amounts of glitter, I had and end product I was very proud of.
Being a part of the internship process at JTWO has been an amazing learning experience, coming out of the [INC]ubator project taught me a lot about myself and my capabilities as a filmmaker. Everyone at JTWO pushed me to do my best, try new things, and explore the possibilities of my own creative focus. This spring and summer helped me focus my skills before I return to school for my final year of college. I couldn’t be more grateful for the help and wisdom everyone at JTWO provided for my fellow interns and me…

“Breaking Point” a short film written, directed, and produced by @avahanuscin as part of our [INC]ubator project.
Sports are journeys of ups and downs, of wins and losses, and failures and success. But the stories we often hear only highlight one side. The side where athletes triumph over challenges, star players lead the way to victory, and teams make comebacks of the century. They focus on the outcome, but not the struggles that weigh on those who made it possible. That’s what I aimed to change. Through this piece, I wanted to shed a light on what athletes go through despite their outstanding performances on the field. With 70% of kids dropping out of organized sports before the age of 13 due to the ongoing professionalization of youth sports, I think it’s important to spread awareness of the toll sports can take on young athletes’ mental health and decrease the stigma around athletes who choose to walk away.
When I first joined JTWO, I didn’t know what to expect. The only thing I knew was that I had a lot of room to grow as a filmmaker. While I had experience in the development side of filming, I was not well versed in production. However, as I reflect on my summer here, I realized that JTWO’a internship program was the best possible place for me to learn and further my skills. I was able to showcase my growth by having the opportunity to direct, edit, and produce my [INC]ubator project. Although it was not an easy process, it was just the challenge I needed…

“Reflections” a short film written + directed by @jennacw14 as part of our [INC]ubator Project
This film started with alluding to a moment that everyone has gone through at some point. You’re trying on outfit after outfit and it seems like nothing is working. The frustration builds and you end up going with the first option just because you assume you’re overthinking it.
As a young woman in college I have struggled with the feeling of insecurity when it comes to my appearance. Being a young woman in general in today’s world is extremely difficult due to the unrealistic beauty standards that have been set by society. More specifically, I’ve found that college party culture has caused me to compare myself to my peers and stress about how I look. With this film, I wanted to aim to show how insecurities can affect such small moments in our lives an dhow something as simple as wearing an outfit is a step closer to overcoming those insecurities. it was important to me to have my subject appear to overcome her anxious thoughts once she is surrounded my her friends, to show that it really was all in her head and people around her think she is beautiful no matter what.
I hope ‘Reflections’ will help young women embrace the reflection they see in the mirror, despite their insecurities making them believe otherwise”
“When You Pirate the Game” written + directed by @olliedawizard as part of our internship [INC]ubator Project
Oliver Hough aka Olliedawizard is a director and editor from Philadelphia. “When You Pirate the Game” is Oliver’s directorial debut. Oliver graduated from Temple University in 2023, studying media production. He has a wide array of credits, including mixing and mastering on multiple Bell Tower Record Label tracks, producing “The Cherry on Top” and now directing, writing, and editing, “When You Pirate the Game”.
” I decided to make ‘When You Pirate the Game’ to exercise my creative abilities and production skills and to grow stronger as a content creator and a creative. I am constantly fascinated by the mundane, day to day, experiences people share, and adding a surreal twist can often times reveal the ludicrously of human nature and society. Of course, I also just like to make people laugh. Exploring a dark comedy was a project I just had to take on and I will continue to work in this genre for future projects. There is humor to be found inall experiences and I hope to continue making art that reflects how I feel about this whole life thing”
