Community College of Philadelphia’s Artist in Residence program is aimed at connecting students with the city’s music community. For the 2024-25 cycle, CCP students will have access to a Grammy Award-nominated songwriter.

RePosted • Part of my artistic residency at is public presentations. Thursday I hosted a conversation about songwriting with my good friend, and fabulous songwriter, .

My thesis is simple: great songs require at least these three ingredients: the familiar, the novel (or unexpected) and the sincere. The pop song form is familiar, but flexible and leaves plenty of room for novel interpretation. If we’re able to strike that balance and add a generous splash of our sincere experience, we have the opportunity to create something great.
