Penn Museum Program Screening Vid v2.mp4
We’re beyond proud of the student’s who participated in the Penn Museum’s Teen Storytelling program, an opportunity to lift youth voices in museum exhibitions and cultivate career pathways for young people in the arts and sciences.
Led by teaching artist Jasmine Lynea, our interns created short films inspired by the exhibition Ancient Food & Flavor. Check out this short reel documenting the screening of their video projects and the opening of their exhibit “Exploring Flavors” at the museum. During the program the interns developed digital storytelling skills while exploring the relationship between food, culture, history, science, and the human experience.

"Dreams" was the theme of this year's Summer Teen Media Program. Check out this recap reel of the 2024 program whose theme guided the direction and served as inspiration for the students. This program was made to provide unique training to students in the art of filmmaking where they are supported by professional filmmakers and teaching artists. In addition to personal films, our students then pitched their group film ideas to a panel of industry professionals. They were then "green lit" and the students produced their films. This year’s screening at the end of the program was filled with families and friends supporting our young filmmakers.
Thank you for supporting us! We want to give a huge thanks to our teaching artists and teaching assistants for guiding their students throughout the process of filmmaking. And we also would like to give a huge thanks to our partners for this program, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Esperanza Academy Charter School, and Taller Puertorriqueño. We couldn’t have done this without you!

The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. -Coretta Scott King
Production is under way for our project with New Sanctuary Movement, a video series highlighting the transformative work they do to support immigrant justice across Philadelphia! New Sanctuary Movement emerged in 2007 when a group of clergy and organizers from the immigrant and ally communities began yearning for a bold, faith-rooted vision for immigrant justice. Through grassroots organizing led by affected immigrants, they fight and win immigrant justice campaigns with our members across nationality, faith, class, and immigration status.

We partner with Harambee Institute of Science and Technology Charter School to provide mentorship to students through creating original films from script-to-screen through a hands-on project-based curriculum; learning screenwriting, pre-production planning, audio/video production, and editing.

This #WomensHistoryMonth, we’re celebrating by putting a spotlight on SIFT Media215 a support system of independent media artists who work in the Philadelphia metropolitan area and provide a community of support for socially conscious women identified filmmakers.
At a meeting in March of 2019, as part of HipCinema Labs weekly co-work meet up at Mt. Airy Nexus, a group of five Black women filmmakers- Tatiana Bacchus, Martha Conley, Yolonda Johnson-Young, Nadine Patterson and Stephanie Malson- decided to gather their resources and form a collective to support each other as independent socially conscious filmmakers.
It is not a secret that Black Women and Women of Color filmmakers are grossly underfunded in cinema and television. Despite this fact, we still create, by any means necessary!
