At 6 years old, Andrew DaCosta stood with his dad near the arrivals of the . With a radio in hand, they listened to and watched the countless flights overhead!

Thanks to his dad, Andrew built an early passion for aviation, and first attempted to get his pilot’s license at Mercer County Community College. Due to lack of planes there, though, he figured he’d just get a traditional degree and work for an airline company.

Andrew studied Engineering at and afterwards worked in the field for a year. However, his life became monotonous. Everything down to when he drank his pre-workout shake became routine, and he knew he needed a change. So at 25 years old he left his job, moved back in with his parents and spent 2 years chasing his dream.

He finished flight school, hit his required flight hours by piloting planes in Saipan, Guam and Texas, and then landed at Piedmont Airlines in Philly. In his 4 years there Andrew became a captain; however, in the last 2 he became a captain at !
-
Now, he’s living his dream while inspiring others to chase theirs. Having kept track of his journey on Instagram, Andrew’s met people who were influenced by his path, and he even flew one of them to their first airline training a few weeks back!

Going forward, though, he hopes to pilot a very specific journey - Andrew hopes to someday fly his parents back to Portugal (where they’re originally from), bringing his inspiration and achievements full circle! Great hanging with you, .drew!

Huge thanks to for this once in a lifetime experience. Being pit side watching Tyler and his team do what they do best was a blast.

This whole thing got me thinking… Who do you think would win a drag race down a runway, Tyler Reddick’s v8, or the Airbus? I could definitely tell you which was louder… 😅

First trip as a fully qualified captain in the books! A quick Newark to Detroit turn. The last few months have been a whirlwind to say the least, but so worth it. Before very flight attendant briefing I had with crew started with “so, I’m brand new” and the support and love made me feel so welcome. The personal notes and snacks were a great touch. From friendly talks with gate agents, to the wisdom (and patience) from our instructors and check airmen, it’s been a blast so far. Honored to work along side all of our great staff.

Back in August I put in a last minute bid to upgrade on the Airbus A220. To my surprise I was awarded the position, and knew I had a lot of work ahead of me. Today I passed my checkride, and it’s yet to settle in what the heck just happened! Never did I think I’d have an opportunity like this and it’s not lost upon me how lucky I am to be in this position.

Our training program has truly been a great experience. Even more so, I couldn’t have asked for a better new hire FO to work with. Next step will be flying with a line check airman for some time, before getting my final sign off to fly as a fully qualified captain. Still a lot of work ahead, but in the meantime I’m going to try to savor this moment. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself; you’ll be surprised as to what you can accomplish if you can give it your all. Looking forward to getting back out there!

I’ve been dreaming about building this Concorde @lego set the moment it was announced. I realized very quickly in my professional career that the 9-5 lifestyle wasn’t really for me. But having that perspective is what made me appreciate how lucky I am to have the job I have now. It’s always bothered me when people say they can’t do something, like “I can’t cook”. Well with that mindset, you’ll never get good at cooking. Same could be said about creating videos, learning photography, or flying an airplane. It takes time, and persistence to get better at things. Nothing earned is ever really easy. I like sharing my story because I know what it feels like to be stuck, and know how scary it can be to take risks. It takes courage to step outside your comfort zone. But in the end I promise it’ll be worth it. All things aside, Lego did a fantastic job with this Concorde set. I’ve been geekin’ over the attention to detail. Felt great getting back in the swing of things after vacation. LGA-DFW-SLC-DEN was quite the long day but rewarding because I got to see a good buddy of mine and even go to an MLS game. After a long day like this, my normal habit would be to order Ubereats and hermit in my room until report the next day. But getting out and moving was definitely the right move. Especially considering I pretty much sat in the flight deck all day. Not always easy… so we’re taking it a day at a time, trying to form strong, healthy habits. Wishing you all the best!

Who plays golf and knows this feeling? Day 4 of the Move Everyday Project, and it was a beautiful day. Considering I’ve only played a few times, I hit some decent shots… just not any of these. Finally made it to one of Jordyn’s HIIT classes and she crushed it! Ended the day of activities with a lil 5 minute recovery cold plunge. It’s time for a nap…

It’s the Move Everyday Project, where we find ways to move our bodies and grow our minds. Today is day 2, and I’m definitely feeling a little sore from yesterday’s 4 mile run. Did a light leg workout, some leg extensions/raises, RDLs, and squats. My buddy was hitting some golf balls in the simulator nearby so I met up with him. I’ve golfed a couple times and honestly don’t see it getting any easier… maybe some lessons would do me some good. Perhaps an idea for another video… Thanks for the love and support, and as always, keep moving 🙂 #MoveEverydayProject

Counting down the days till I leave my first airline, and I can’t help but to feel bittersweet. These have truly been some of the best years of my life.
