Embattled Speaker Fonati Koffa says he will not acknowledge the authority of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, who was elected by the Majority bloc of the House of Representatives.

Speaking upon his return from the U.S Saturday, Koffa reiterated his position, emphasizing that he is pursuing legal clarification on the issue and will not validate Koon’s leadership.

"Sitting under Speaker Koon's leadership would mean legitimizing his speakership, and that is something I cannot do at this time," Koffa declared.

Explosive Revelation: Suspect Claims Lawmaker Facilitated Capitol Building Arson Plot!

Update:

Suspect Kivi Bah has informed police investigators that Montserrado County District #16 Representative Dixon Sebo allegedly facilitated their plans to burn the Capitol Building.

Kivi Bah, alias Kaba, narrated that prior to December 10, 2024, John Nyanti and an unidentified associate asked him to come to the Capitol Building on December 10, 2024, to meet with Hon. Dixon W. Sebo. On that day, he left New Kru Town and went to the Capitol Building, but was stopped by an officer of the Liberia National Police.

According to defendant Kivi Bah, he and his friends remained around the Capitol Building until the compound was clear. Then, John Nyanti took them to meet with Hon. Dixon Sebo in his office. During the meeting, they told Hon. Sebo that they were hungry, prompting him to give money to one of his office staff to buy food for them at the Senate restaurant. After eating, they asked Hon. Sebo for transportation to return to New Kru Town.

Defendant Kivi Bah alleged that Hon. Sebo gave John Nyanti one hundred United States dollars (US$100.00), which Nyanti divided, giving each of them one thousand three hundred Liberian dollars (1,300 LRD) as transportation. On his way home, John Nyanti called Bah back to the Capitol Building and gave him two hundred Liberian dollars (200 LRD) to buy a small bottle of gasoline, which he did before returning home.

Regarding the December 18, 2024, arson attack, defendant Kivi Bah stated that on December 17, 2024, the day of the Capitol Building protest at 10:45 pm, Tyrese (Jerry Poka) called him, saying that Hon.

The Liberia National Police have arrested, charged, and investigated two additional suspects in the alleged Capitol Building arson case, joining defendants Thomas Etheridge and Eric Sasay for prosecution.

The suspects, Jerry Pokah alias Tyrese and Kivin Bah alias Kaba, were sent to court on Wednesday, February 5, for the alleged crimes of:
- Arson
- Release of Destructive Forces
- Reckless Burning or Exploding
- Endangering or Exploding
- Criminal Mischief
- Recklessly Endangering Another Person
- Criminal Conspiracy
- Criminal Solicitation

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the Joint Chamber, 4th floor, and the dome within the Representative wing of the Capitol Building were set ablaze through a conspiracy allegedly orchestrated by defendants Jerry Pokah alias Tyrese and Kivin Bah alias Kaba, along with defendant Thomas Isaac Etheridge alias Tom, who is now before the court, as well as John Nyantee, Amos Koffa, Stephen Broh, Patience Bestman, Grace Johnson, and others who remain at large.

The police investigation revealed that on December 18, 2024, at about 5:40 am, Mr. James Mulbah entered the Capitol Building compound and began opening the doors between the East and North sides. While Mulbah was still opening other doors, the aforementioned defendants surreptitiously entered the building, spilled gasoline on the 3rd and 4th floors, and used matches to ignite the floors.

However, police report that defendant Jerry Pokah admitted to being part of a meeting to burn the Capitol Building, which took place in Jallah Town around the used cars parking lot. He stated that during the meeting, John Nyanti gave him and Kivi Bah one hundred United States dollars (US$100.00). Pokah took fifty-five dollars (US$55.00) and gave forty-five dollars (US$45.00) to Kivi Bah.

Trump Appoints Acting Administrator for USAID to Enhance Accountability and Efficiency in Aid Distribution

President Donald Trump has designated Secretary Marco Rubio as the Acting Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), according to a statement from the U.S. Department of State.

In a Facebook announcement on Monday, the State Department explained that this appointment is a temporary measure aimed at gaining better oversight and comprehension of the agency's operations, even though it is managed by U.S. citizens.

Rubio takes over from Jason Gray, who served as acting director starting January 20, 2025.

This decision comes after the agency's operations in Africa were paused for three months due to issues related to mismanagement and the misuse of taxpayer funds.

The statement highlighted that over the years, USAID has seen numerous disorganized initiatives that have hindered the agency's original objectives.

It was noted that a considerable amount of USAID funding does not align with the fundamental national interests of the United States.

The move is viewed as part of a broader initiative to combat fraud within the U.S. and to enhance transparency in public institutions.

In the meantime, Acting Administrator Rubio has promptly informed Congress that a review of USAID’s foreign assistance programs is in progress, aiming to potentially fortify its operational framework.

"As we assess USAID and ensure its alignment with an America First agenda and the goals of the State Department, we remain committed to safeguarding the interests of the American people and preventing the waste of their tax dollars," he stated.

Rubio emphasized the Trump Administration's dedication to reforming the agency's legal structure and establishing a comprehensive developmental strategy that aligns with America's core national interests.

However, many Liberians are expressing concerns regarding the halt of U.S. assistance to Liberia, an important ally viewed as crucial to shaping America's future.

While some perceive this as a positive step towards transparency, others criticize the directive as detrimental to developing nations in Africa.

In response to the State Department's Facebook post, commenter Tony Jr. remarked, "While ensuring accountability and efficiency in aid distribution is essential, it is equally important to acknowledge that genuine global leadership entails a commitment to humanitarian assistance."

Tony's comment reflects concerns about the potential consequences of the USAID review and restructuring on communities that depend on its support.

Conversely, commenter Wendy Elizabeth Dayton supported Trump's decision, stating, "I believe all NGOs should be audited before any additional funds are allocated to them; there needs to be more checks and balances in this area, with full transparency to the American public through FOIA-type reports."

Wendy is advocating for accountability regarding previous funding directed to African nations through USAID.

For many years, USAID has played a vital role in enhancing crucial sectors such as healthcare, education, agricultural food security, and emergency response in African countries.

CDC's Koijee Demands Prosecution Over Accusations and Criticizes Government for Shielding Criminals, Leading Liberia into Chaos

Former Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee, in a statement released on Monday, demanding that the government investigate and prosecute him for the accusations that have plagued him during the George Weah administration. He challenged President Joseph Boakai's government to take action.

Koijee described Boakai's administration as a "charade," accusing it of protecting criminals, using justice to target political opponents, and allowing corruption to thrive. He criticized the government for not bringing any legitimate charges against him, while alleged criminals remain free.

He labeled Liberia a “haven for crime and cover-ups” under President Boakai’s leadership. The former Mayor reflected on the accusations he faced during his tenure as mayor under President Weah, including claims of involvement in murders and disappearances, which led to U.S. sanctions. Koijee denies these accusations and says they were spread by those now in power under Boakai, yet no evidence has been presented against him.

The CDC Secretary General further stated that Liberia has descended into lawlessness, with those who accused him of crimes now in positions of power. He pointed to the unresolved murder of Charloe Musu, where the only suspect arrested, former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott, was released and given a government position, while the real killer remains free.

He also accused the Liberia National Police (LNP) of turning into a state-sponsored gang responsible for human rights abuses, including the deaths of civilians in Voinjama and Monrovia, with no accountability or justice. He claimed that these are just a few examples of the 22 human rights violations reported in the first year of Boakai’s rule, which have gone unpunished.

Koijee criticized the government as “a government of lies and hypocrisy,” stating that his accusers have now turned a blind eye to the country’s rising violence and suffering. He called on Liberia’s international partners to act, stressing the need for a government that upholds justice and accountability, rather than one that silences dissent and protects the guilty. He urged global action to prevent Liberia from descending further into chaos.
