Living alongside urban wildlife can be challenging, but these creatures play a crucial role in maintaining the biodiversity of our beloved green spaces. From pollinating plants to keeping ecosystems balanced, they help sustain the very nature that makes our cities vibrant and full of life, even amidst the hustle and bustle. 🌱
What tips do you have for sharing space with urban wildlife? 🐦
🍄 Mycotecture = the art of building with mushrooms!
Coined in 2008 by Philip Ross, co-founder of @MycoWorks, this innovative tech uses mycelium to create a compostable, leather-like material that’s as strong as it is sustainable. 🌿
This is one of several innovative, sustainable fashion solutions at The Academy of Natural Sciences Ecology of Fashion exhibit, which runs now through August 31st. What goes up must come down! 🎈
We know releasing balloons can be a special way to honor someone, but remember—what goes up must come down. Often, balloons end up in oceans and waterways, where they can harm (and eventually kill) sea turtles, birds, and other wildlife who mistake them for food. 😢
Here are some thoughtful, eco-friendly ways to remember a loved one while caring for the planet:
🌳 Plant a Tree or Garden: Create a living tribute that grows and supports local wildlife.
🪨 Memory Stones: Decorate rocks with messages and place them somewhere meaningful.
🚶 Memory Walk: Gather friends or family for a walk in nature, sharing stories and honoring memories together.
💚 Support a Cause: Donate or volunteer in their name to make a positive impact in their honor.
Any other ideas you’d add?
🎉✨ Art lovers and weekend adventurers: DYK Friday Night Lounge at the Philadelphia Museum of Art happens every week from 5–8:30 p.m.? 🖼️🥂 Enjoy open galleries, live music, performances, and drinks. 🎶🍸

💧Turning on the tap and filling a glass with cool, clean water is something we do without a second thought. It’s easy to forget the journey our water takes to reach us. Fairmount Water Works, a historic water pumping station on the east bank of the Schuylkill River, is the perfect place to explore Philadelphia's water story—past and present. 🏛️
Have you visited this fascinating education center? You can visit Fairmount Waterworks at 640 Waterworks Dr., Wednesday through Sunday 10am to 5pm.
🚨 DYK: ASPIRA Bilingual Cyber Charter School in Philadelphia launched a game-changing solar system—installed by our friends over at Exact Solar! 🌞 This solar system powers an aquaponic growing system in their newly revamped greenhouse, offering students hands-on learning in sustainable urban agriculture. 🌱
The project aims to increase equity in STEM education, allowing students to explore everything from growing food in a closed system to preparing and serving it in the school café! 🍅 Plus, they’ll sell their homegrown produce at a local farmers market, learning about sustainable entrepreneurship along the way!
We can’t wait to see how this project will inspire students to connect with renewable energy, sustainable farming, and climate action. The future is looking bright!✨
DYK today is National Recycling Day? ♻️ In Philadelphia, glass isn't always made into new bottles - it's frequently downcycled into filler for construction projects or used at landfills as “alternative daily cover.”
As an alternative, you can drop it off at Bottle Underground and watch it get a whole new life with Remark Glass. This local, woman-owned business is giving old glass a fresh start, turning it into stylish glassware, unique decor, and even glass sand. 🌟
How are you reusing glass in your home? Tell us or drop a ♻️ if this inspires you to start!
