Last week, I (Lauren, Green Philly's Social Media and Marketing Manager 👋) took advantage of what felt like the last warm days of the year by heading out with friends to explore the Schuylkill River! We were excited to check out the East Falls River Landing for the first time. This ADA-accessible ramp, opened in 2022, makes it easier for all Philadelphians to enjoy the river. 🚣♀️ Located along #CircuitTrails, it's the perfect spot to take a moment and connect with nature. 🌿 Have you visited yet?

First "clean", then "green"? 🤔 When Philadelphia's Clean and Green Cabinet was originally announced in May, we asked Casey Kuklick, Deputy Director of the Office of Clean and Green Initiatives, about the cabinet’s work. As he stated in this reel, the cabinet provides policy, legislative, and budget recommendations to the Mayor on a wide range of issues, including environmental justice, quality of life, greening and beautification, clean and renewable energy, and more.
While the city has shared a lot about the city's "clean"ing efforts, there was little mention of concrete plans for the "green" or sustainability initiatives. So our writer Angie Bacha looked into the Cabinet's progress. Mayor Parker promised to 'prioritize environmental sustainability' through the Office of Clean and Green Initiatives - will that promise be kept?

We joined #BirdPhilly to watch thousands of chimney swifts roost at the old Hallahan High School chimney (now you get their namesake, right?). We learned from chimney swift expert, Judy, that swifts start gathering together mid-August to roost and then will start migrating to South America! Go see them for yourself ASAP before they migrate away at 19th and Wood- the chimney swifts start gathering around 10 minutes before sunset.
Have you seen this in person?? ✨🐦⬛

If you won’t listen to us, at least listen to SpongeBob. 😍
When we dump trash on the streets, it doesn’t just stay there—it eventually makes its way to our waterways, like the Schuylkill River. And guess where that leads? Yep, Bikini Bottom (a.k.a. the ocean)!
This month is #NationalCleanUpMonth, and we’re challenging you to step up to help protect Bikini Bottom! Err, we mean, the Schuylkill! Grab a bag, head outside, and pick up at least 10 pieces of trash (super easy, right? But imagine if 100 of our followers did this!). When we properly dispose of (or better yet, reduce) our trash, it’s less likely to end up in our waterways, harming the environment, wildlife, and even human health.
Will you take the pledge to help? Don’t let SpongeBob down (c'mon, he's just a cute lil' sponge)
📱 Have you tried the FREE Philly311 app?
It gives Philadelphia residents direct access to city services, helping to improve our neighborhoods. With the app, you can easily report potholes, illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles, and even oversized trash trucks on narrow streets! 🚛 You can also call 311 directly from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for assistance if you’re within the city.
Looking for more ways to get involved in bettering our city? Join us tonight (9/18) at 'Sustainability in Action'! We’ll be joined by Councilmember Jamie Gauthier's Director of Communication, Harrison Feinman and Elizabeth Lankanaeu, Director of @philaoos, to discuss urgent environmental issues facing Philadelphia and answer your questions. Snag a last minute spot (https://bit.ly/3yZuw7A)! This event is part of our efforts with the #EveryVoiceEveryVote initiative. 🌿
