🚨Home Break-In on Harned Street After 1 AM – Cars Stolen

Sometime after 1 AM on Saturday, February 8th, a home on Harned Street was broken into. The thieves found the key fobs inside and used them to steal the vehicles parked at the property before driving away.

Police are investigating and asking residents to stay cautious. Keep key fobs in a safe place and make sure all doors and windows are locked. If you saw anything suspicious or have any information, please contact the authorities.

Stay alert and look out for your neighbors.

Después de la 1 AM del sábado 8 de febrero, una casa en la calle Harned fue robada. Los ladrones encontraron los llaveros dentro de la casa y los usaron para robar los vehículos estacionados en la propiedad antes de huir.

⚠️Academy for Urban Leadership Charter School to Close in June 2025

Perth Amboy, NJ – The Academy for Urban Leadership Charter School (AULCS) will permanently close on June 30, 2025, following a decision by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE). The NJDOE cited concerns regarding academic performance, governance, and operational stability as reasons for the closure.

In an official statement, Chief School Administrator Paul Oliveira expressed disappointment over the decision, stating that the current administration was not given enough time to demonstrate the progress made in student achievement and school operations. The administration, which took office in July 2024, implemented several initiatives to improve academic instruction, reduce suspension rates, and strengthen governance. However, despite reported gains in internal assessments, the NJDOE determined that AULCS did not meet expectations within the allotted timeframe.

The school is now focusing on transition support for students, families, and staff. Assemblies will be held for students on February 4, 2025, to discuss the next steps, while a parent meeting is scheduled for February 6, 2025, during report card night. AULCS will also assist families in securing placements in new schools and provide career transition support for staff.

⚠️La Academia para el Liderazgo Urbano Cerrará en Junio de 2025

Perth Amboy, NJ – La Academia para el Liderazgo Urbano (AULCS) cerrará permanentemente el 30 de junio de 2025, según una decisión del Departamento de Educación de Nueva Jersey (NJDOE). La NJDOE citó preocupaciones sobre el rendimiento académico, la gobernanza y la estabilidad operativa como razones para el cierre.

En un comunicado oficial, el Administrador Escolar Principal, Paul Oliveira, expresó su decepción por la decisión, afirmando que la administración actual no tuvo suficiente tiempo para demostrar el progreso logrado en el rendimiento estudiantil y la gestión escolar. Desde su llegada en julio de 2024, la administración implementó varias iniciativas para mejorar la instrucción académica, reducir las tasas de suspensión y fortalecer la gobernanza. Sin embargo, a pesar de los avances reportados en evaluaciones internas, la NJDOE determinó que AULCS no cumplió con las expectativas dentro del tiempo asignado.

La escuela ahora se centra en brindar apoyo de transición a los estudiantes, familias y personal. Se llevarán a cabo asambleas estudiantiles el 4 de febrero de 2025 para discutir los próximos pasos, y una reunión para padres está programada para el 6 de febrero de 2025, durante la entrega de calificaciones. Además, AULCS asistirá a las familias en la búsqueda de nuevas escuelas y ofrecerá apoyo laboral al personal afectado.
