As we close out the year, we’re taking a look back at where our Sea Stories began!
This pilot episode, filmed almost a year ago, introduced the creative minds behind the series. David Van Der Like, retired US Navy pilot and retired airline pilot, and Ben Van Der Like, an active Chief Mate in the Merchant Marines, set out to merge two worlds they know well aviation and maritime.
From the start, Hellcat Hangar Sea Stories has focused on story driven episodes that are both engaging and educational. Drawing from a wide network of storytellers, the series shares voices and experiences that are rarely heard, from TOPGUN graduates to harbor pilots and many perspectives in between.
This early episode also captures progress on the Hellcat Hangar mural by Daniela, a look at a rare piece of naval history with Hill Goodspeed, Deputy Director of the National Naval Aviation Museum, and a conversation with Dr. Judy Bense, President Emeritus of the University of West Florida, on the history and importance of Pensacola Bay and the Port of Pensacola.
