Here’s what has made all the difference for me 👇🏼 When I was 6 yrs old, I climbed a tall magnolia tree in our front yard and perched up high, preceded to “assume” every passerby’s life story into written form. Somewhere between an aspiring PI/Investigative journalist/poet that didn’t know it regular practice, i learned to observe the world with a big picture point of view… and then filled in the details with imagination. A true “Storyteller” My first blog was called “My Story, His Story” & was an authentic daily expression of my small part in a bigger plan. In college, I helped start an empowering and spiritually based organization for girls ages 12-college and my main role on the “lead team” was “Lead Storyteller” and my job was to teach young women to share theirs in an efficient, yet transparent way to a crowd ranging from 30-hundreds at a time. These young women were invited or volunteered and often held a powerful testimony about some sort of transformation that their faith had compelled. Often times, the release of fear I would see in them at the close of that last word would leave those good tears streaming from my eyes or my hands lifted victoriously into the air! After an event they would come and squeeze my shoulders tight and thank me for encouraging but not pushing them. Equipping but not manipulating. They would describe that “after I told my story” moment as freedom • exhilarating • “like I could do absolutely anything” There’s power in telling our stories and what I’ve learned in the last 15 years or so is that our impact in this lifetime, and even our income, SHOULD result from embracing who we are, what we’ve faced and overcome, and also… what we want to write our next chapter to be about.
