You may remember him as Cowboy Dan…. Or the Big Hearted Lovin’ Man…. Or perhaps this is your grand introduction. He is the twangy treasure of Melbourne, Australia — and his latest spoken-word project features Dan Brodie like you’ve never (quite) heard him! Dan’s always been “On the Outer” & you never know which direction he’s heading next….

We have heard these “sparks fly” as far as spoken word from Dan (see ‘The Ballad of Cowboy Dan’ title track), but mostly on a mythical level. By his own admission, he might be revealing too much on these new songs!

Quite possibly my favorite episode to date! Dan has been writing for over a decade, has been featured on the documentary “Funny Tweets” (Tubi, Prime Video) - and his written work has appeared on Adult Swim & Cartoon Network. Dan has also hosted a podcast series (The Hate Locker) & has appeared on many other podcast episodes. He regularly hosts at in Victoria!

We celebrate our Danhood in the opening segment … and then Dan takes us on a guided tour of beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, the place he calls home. You’ll hear about Dan’s approach to comedy - and you might even feel like you already know the guy. He brings that relatable quality to the table.

I wish we could keep it light & airy throughout - but if you’ve been listening long enough you know things can get deep on Dan Time at a moment’s notice. And that’s OK. Hopefully this episode reaches someone who is struggling with addiction or is possibly on a slippery slope..

Standup comedian Dan Turco was voted the 2023 Detroit Metro Times “Best Local Comedian.” He has entertained audiences across the Great Lakes region for nearly a decade.

Dan also serves on the board of the Motor City Comedy Festival, “a non-profit organization that gives comedians from across the world the opportunity to network, learn and practice their craft.” For this year’s festival, the board reviewed over 370 submissions & advanced the top 30 applicants.

Dan is a pro baseball pitcher, coming off a strong season with the Tri-City ValleyCats of the Frontier League. The Frontier League is just one of four MLB partner leagues. Dan shares a story about a near life-threatening baseball injury that occurred when he was just 11 years old. We talk about his pitch arsenal, approach to high-pressure game situations, traveling with the team, favorite places to play & more!

Dan appeared in 8 games for the ValleyCats in 2024 and finished the season with a 2-1 record and 1.91 ERA. He was named Frontier League Pitcher of the Week in July 2023. After graduating from East Regional High School (Voorhees, NJ), Dan enrolled at Rutgers-Camden and pitched for the Scarlet Raptors. As a graduate student, Dan then played the 2022 and ‘23 season for Palm Beach Atlantic of the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).

Dan talked about his relationship with longtime Sailfish coach and former big-league pitcher Kent Bottenfield. Dan was twice awarded SSC Pitcher of the Week during his 2023 campaign with the Sailfish.
