Happy Birthday to the legendary Bluesman, John Lee Ho**er.

Ho**er's distinct Blues style inspired The Doors’ sound - the band used to perform “Crawling King Snake” in their early club days and recorded it for their album, L.A.WOMAN.

“John Lee Ho**er came on with ‘Crawling King Snake’ and that really got to me. That song encapsulated the whole Blues experience. I think it's his voice, the way he half sang, half talked. It just said to me: ‘I am the Blues,’ and woke up a whole Blues part of me.” -Robby Krieger

Today, we celebrate the anniversary of Big Brother and the Holding Company’s self-titled debut album, released on this day in 1967!

Did you know it was Big Brother and the Holding Company’s manager at the time, Chet Helms, who introduced Janis to the band? Chet felt the band needed a “stronger singer,” so he brought Janis back to San Francisco.

This iconic release includes hits like "Down on Me," "Blindman," and "Coo Coo," along with two tracks penned by Janis, "Intruder" and "Women Is Losers."

The late, legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan would have celebrated his 69th birthday today! 🎸
His legacy stands as being one of the best guitarists of all time, and one of the most influential musicians in the history of blues music.
Born on October 3, 1954, Texas Blues Icon Stevie Ray Vaughan (SRV) started playing the guitar at the age of 7, inspired by older brother Jimmy.
He began playing clubs in the Dallas, TX, area at the age of 14;
performed with a number of bands, including Blackbird, the Shantones, the Epileptic Marshmallow, Cracker Jack, and Texas Storm; moved to Austin, TX, 1972, and performed with the Nightcrawlers, the Cobras, and Triple Threat.
He founded Double Trouble in 1978; first recorded on David Bowie's album Let's Dance in 1983; signed by CBS and released first album, 1983; toured extensively throughout the United States; released five albums on CBS label before his tragic death in a helicopter crash in 1990.
He was named Blues Entertainer of the Year by W.C. Handy Blues Foundation, 1985; winner of numerous magazine readers poll awards.
Happy 69th birthday Stevie! Thanks for your beautiful music, your signature tone is timeless ❤️

What Clapton thought of SRV's playing during his last few days:
“The worst thing for me was that Stevie Ray had been sober for three years and was at his peak. When he played that night, he had all of us standing mere with our jaws dropped. I mean, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan and Buddy Guy were just watching in awe. There was no one better than him on this planet. Really unbelievable,” Eric Clapton said.

I had a date with music
but memories came along.
They never had an invite
but joined in every song.

My tears met my face.
They were here to stay.
So many memories
I had locked away.

They sat down beside me.
They looked me in the eyes.
As I relived the moments.
Laughter drowned my cries.

I had a date with music
but memories came along.
They never had an invite
but we danced to every song.
