PENDER JUNIORS ANGLING FOR THE DRIVER'S SEAT
The Pender Post 55 Juniors are now 2-0 in the Class C State Tournament in Hartington. They will play the only other unbeaten team — perennial powerhouse Malcolm — at 7 p.m. tonight (Monday, July 22). The winner will have the driver's seat toward Wednesday's championship. In this Pender Times photo taken in last night's 7-0 win over Loomis, Zander Welsh slides safely in for a score on a close play at home plate.

I NEED YOUR HELP! There isn't much to write about this week in The Pender Times with the storm putting much of the world on hold the past week. So you can expect a fair amount of snow pics! But I'd also love to reference some old storms Penderites and Thurstonites might recall from years past. My first and only big one was the winter of 2009-10 here — but I know there's more. Please feel free to share the year it happened and a memory of it that might just make my column when it prints tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

ATM THEFT ATTEMPTED IN PENDER (latest info)

A group of at least three individuals attempted to make a rather large withdrawal from the CharterWest Bank ATM in Pender this morning (Thursday, Nov. 16). The kind that brings the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Nebraska State Patrol and Thurston County law enforcement together.
At approximately 6:22 a.m. two individuals stole a pickup from a Pender business. Minutes later, at 6:38 a.m., one individual hooked the pickup to the ATM located at 610 4th Street and attempted to haul it away with the other behind the wheel, pulling it from its foundation and out into Elwood Street. This action also caused damage to a pillar supporting the bank's drive-thru canopy.
Sheriff Russell Briggs said a short time later, and without successfully taking any money from the machine, they left on foot and were picked up by a third invididual in a get-away vehicle described as a dark colored, small SUV.
The facedown ATM and stolen pickup were left sitting in the middle of Elwood Street.
The suspects wore hoods and face coverings, Briggs said.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Thurston County Sheriff's office at 402-385-3018.
