Thermal Processing Magazine

Thermal Processing Magazine Spotlighting the heat treating industry, including materials, machinery, and design. We look forward to working with you in the coming years!

Thermal Processing focuses on heat-treating technologies for gear manufacturers. Produced by Media Solutions, Inc.—publishers of Gear Solutions and Wind Systems magazines—the launch of Thermal Processing is in direct response to requests by readers for more information on heat-treating gears. Twice annually experts from both industry and academia will share their expertise with you, discussing the

latest developments in equipment design as well as the processes so central to the finishing and hardening of gears. Articles will address topics such as carburizing, annealing, flame hardening, austenitizing, austempering, case hardening, cyaniding, carbonitriding, stress relieving, martempering, and even cryogenic and quenching techniques. Metallurgists will discuss the latest research into the metals and alloys used in manufacturing gears, particularly their reaction to the various heat-treating processes to which they are exposed. Engineers will describe cutting-edge furnace designs leading to greater productivity, dependability, and repeatability. Robotics, quality assurance, part measurement, and machine vision systems will also be explored. Excellent exposure is guaranteed for all contributors, with 10,000 print copies—and an approximately additional 8,000 digital versions—of each issue being distributed around the country, and the world. As experienced trade publishers it is our mission to link OEMs and those providing peripheral services and devices with end users, creating a network of resources for the benefit of gear manufacturing and related industries.

Let's get technical! Here's part 4 of a series from Scott MacKenzie:

Typical cleaning problems — such as alkaline residues from poorly rinsed parts, rust, and caustic burns — can be controlled once you pin down the cause.

Fourth in a series » Among the many specifications applied to finished heat-treated goods, the cleanliness of those goods is increasingly important in appea ...

David Christopher “Coop” Cooper, president and CEO of Media Solutions Inc., passed away December 7 after a long medical battle.

(Media Solutions is the publisher of Gear Solutions, Thermal Processing, and Wind Systems magazines.)

Mr. Cooper was born in Coos Bay, Oregon, and, after decades of experience within the B2B publishing industry, launched Media Solutions in December 2002 with the publication of Gear Solutions' inaugural issue in April 2003.

Not content with resting on the success of Gear Solutions, Mr. Cooper continued to expand his publishing portfolio across other industries with Wind Systems in May 2009 and Thermal Processing in November 2012.

He was an Army veteran and an avid Alabama Crimson Tide football fan. After an accident in his 20s left him partially paralyzed, he would later advocate for accessibility and continued education for people with spinal injuries.

Although his office is empty, Mr. Cooper’s publishing legacy will continue. That’s just what Coop would have wanted.
