At approximately 3:30 p.m. today, Engine 5 responded to a reported vehicle fire on the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway alongside our brothers from and .

Upon arrival, crews found a transport bus with an engine compartment fire that had rapidly spread to the passenger area. While our members operated the initial attack line, Pelham Manor Engine 1 quickly established a water supply from a nearby road and stretched a line onto the highway. MVFD assisted with manpower and deployed a second precautionary line. A DOT Help Truck ( )and Westchester County Police Department also on scene, assisted with highway closures to ensure the safety of firefighters operating on the active roadway.

Thankfully, the driver was able to self-evacuate safely, and no passengers were on board. Incidents like this on the Hutchinson River Parkway pose unique challenges due to limited water supply and dry vegetation. Thanks to a quick response and seamless coordination among all responding units, the fire was contained to the vehicle without further extension.

Weโ€™re proud to introduce the newest addition to our ranks, Probationary Firefighter Aiden Reynolds.

Continuing his familyโ€™s proud tradition of serving in our department, Aiden follows in the footsteps of his father, Lieutenant Peter Reynolds, who has served the Village of Pelham since 1998, and his grandfather, Tom Walker, a former volunteer member of our department.

Aiden, a lifelong Pelham resident and a product of Pelham Schools, graduating from Pelham Memorial High School in 2024. While there, he was actively involved in ice hockey, representing his school and other local teams.

Yesterday, Aiden reported to the 20-week Westchester County Career Chiefs Fire Academy, marking the official start of his career. He joins other probationary firefighters from Westchester, Dutchess, Putnam, and Long Island departments.

Congratulations, Aiden! We look forward to working with you!

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’ After two weeks of intensive in-house training, Probationary Firefighter Macdonald has officially joined his group. Over the past two weeks, he has completed driver training, ladder positioning, bailout training, multiple building walkthroughs, attack line deployment, standpipe operations, and much moreโ€”all while responding to emergencies.

But the training doesnโ€™t stop here. Every new firefighter takes the strong foundation from the Westchester County Career Chiefโ€™s Academy and applies it to our departmentโ€™s specific operations. Continuous training is a core part of our job, ensuring weโ€™re always ready to serve our residents at the highest level. ๐Ÿš’

๐Ÿšจ Post-Snowstorm Safety Reminder! ๐Ÿšจ

After last nightโ€™s snowstorm, be sure to stay safe while clearing your property:

โ„๏ธ Shovel Smart โ€“ Take breaks and lift with your legs, not your back.

๐Ÿš’ Clear Hydrants โ€“ Help us help you! Keep fire hydrants visible and accessible.

๐Ÿ  Watch for Ice โ€“ Sidewalks and driveways may be slippery.

๐Ÿ”‹ Check Vents โ€“ Clear snow from home heating and dryer vents to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.

Check on your Neighbors โ€“ Look out for older neighbors who may need help shoveling or staying warm.

We want to congratulate the newest member of our department, PFF Shane Macdonald, on completing the Westchester County Career Chiefโ€™s Fire Academy.

Over the past 20 weeks, PFF Macdonald and the other 42 recruits from around Westchester County and the Hudson Valley successfully completed over 790 hours of training to be prepared to serve their respective communities. This is no easy feat, mentally and physically.

PFF Macdonald begins his in-house training on Monday, and we are excited to have him!

Congratulations, PFF Macdonald, and to the rest of the 02-24 Academy Class! Stay safe!

A big thank you to the directors and command staff at the Westchester Career Fire Academy for sharing their knowledge and skills over the past 20 weeks with all the new recruits. Your dedication to the future of the fire service does not go unnoticed.

Twenty years ago, three of New Yorkโ€™s Bravest ( ) died on what is now known as Black Sunday. โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
On Jan. 23, 2005, firefighters responded to a Bronx apartment building and found themselves in a smoke-filled maze of illegally divided apartments. With flames cutting off their means of egress, six firefighters were forced to jump from the fourth floor. Lt. Curtis Meyran of Battalion 26 and Lt. Bellew of Ladder Company 27 died from their injuries that day. Firefighter Cawley, Firefighter Eugene Stolowski of Ladder 27, as well as Firefighter Jeffrey Cool, suffered critical injuries. Lt. Joseph DiBernardo of Rescue 3, who was also forced to jump, endured multiple surgical procedures before his death on November 22, 2011, due to his injuries from that day. โฃโฃ

Their sacrifice changed emergency escape procedures for firefighters in New York State and across the United States. This emergency procedure utilizing a personal escape safety system is mandatory for all firefighters in New York State to train on and to be carried on their persons at all times. This procedure is a last resort in the instance a firefighterโ€™s means of egress is compromised. This procedure must be trained annually and frequently, so it is second nature when the system must be deployed. We train on this annually to ensure proficiency in this skill, even in zero visibility.
โฃโฃ
Just hours later, Firefighter Richard Sclafani was killed fighting a fire in Brooklyn. Please take the time to remember them today.

๐ŸŽ๐Ÿš’ Holiday Tradition Returns! ๐Ÿš’๐ŸŽ

Last week, for the first time since before the pandemic, alongside our brothers from , we had the privilege of delivering toys directly to the rooms of the young patients at Maria Fareri Childrenโ€™s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center.

This cherished tradition, which both of our departments have upheld for over 20 years, allows us to bring joy and holiday cheer to children who cannot be home for the holidays.

None of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of the Pelham and Pelham Manor communities during our annual joint toy drive. Your support continues to make a meaningful impact on so many lives.

Weโ€™d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the amazing Child Life Team at Maria Fareri Childrenโ€™s Hospital for their dedication and for helping us make this day so special for the kids.

Thank you, Pelham and Pelham Manor, for helping us keep this tradition alive and brightening the holidays for these incredible children!

For the first time in over 97 years, our headquarters at 219 Fifth Avenue is no longer occupied.

This building has been our home, staffed 24/7, 365 days a year, serving the community with dedication and pride.

As of 1800 hours on December 17th, 2024, we have officially moved to our new headquarters at 200 Fifth Avenue in the Village of Pelham Municipal Center.

While leaving behind nearly a century of memories and tradition is bittersweet, we are excited to begin this new chapter and continue serving our community from our new home.

We canโ€™t wait to start showing this space to you as we carry forward 97 years of history and tradition. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

THANK YOU!

On behalf of the Pelham Professional Firefighters and the Pelham Manor Career Firefighters Benevolent Association, we thank everyone who donated to our 2nd Annual Joint Toy Drive. Your generosity helped bring some holiday cheer to children who cannot be home for the holidays.

Yesterday, members personally delivered well over 400 toys to the Maria Fareri Childrenโ€™s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, a tradition in both departments spanning 25 to 30 years. We thank the Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy team at for their help and support in ensuring toys get delivered to the children throughout the hospital.

There is still time to donate directly to the Maria Fareri Childrenโ€™s Hospital online, see the link in our bio!

Thank You All Again!
