Since I’ve completed so many studio update projects over the course of the last couple of months I decided to refresh my walk through video. Come and make records!
Negating a large amount of page turning, coughing, etc... using SuperTrue automation on a large choir project that wrapped mixing tonight. 12 tunes recorded under strict COVID protocols. 151 individually recorded vocal tracks all in. VERY happy with the final outcome. To be broadcasted during the holiday season once the video editing is completed. Stay tuned...
VERY happy to announce that Grey Cat’s Amek Media 51 recording console is now FULLY functional with SuperTrue Automation, Amek Virtual Dynamics, and Recall capabilities restored!
In addition to being able to automate all mixing functions with VCA automation control, we now have access to twelve Rupert Neve compressors, limiters and gates that can be assigned to any of its 60 input modules. All automation, Virtual Dynamics and channel control variables (fader, pan, EQ, Aux, etc...) can now be saved and recalled at a later time to pick up where we left off at any given time during a projects process. This is very exciting for all of us working at Grey Cat currently and for all future projects.
All of this has been made possible by Amek console guru David Rochester of Technical Audio Services. Can not thank you enough Dave and look forward to seeing you again soon.

We had some real fun yesterday/last night! AND we got to do some real recording ta boot. Began with just a kick around with Andrew Patrick Henry and Daniel, but Ansar and Vinny wandered in and we ended up tracking an epic tune before it was all over. It should be illegal to have this much fun! Still a few things to get done, but all were very pleased at what we were getting out of the speakers. This vid is from early in the day before Vin busted out of the wedding he was attending and made his way over...
Wow. Big shout out to Andrew Patrick Henry who put in some serious time running the reconfigured studio through it’s paces with me tonight. We just wrapped up a little while ago and I’m more pumped then ever about our progress. We tested the virtual dynamics, verified all outboard mic pre’s are working thru the patchbay, verified all recorder tape paths and returns, and completed line checking the drum room inputs. We were moving along at a brisk pace, but it all came to a crashing halt when we got to testing the cue system. Took a couple of hours to figure out the problem, but ultimately we got it all worked out.
Tomorrow I plan on working on ensuring all the external return stuff is working, and take care of a couple power needs and perhaps actually track some drums. Onward and upward!
It may not be that exciting to some, but tonight the most illness, mad welding brother in law Mervin Sweeting totally hooked me up working his ass off refurbishing Grey Cat’s new console’s stand. As I mentioned prior, the stand ranked dangerously close to Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tree. After Merv got a hold of it the out come is that we are ready to convene the Heavy Lifters this weekend to bring the beast into the studio control room and mount it onto its stand. A huge thanks to Merv. I love you bro.
Upchuck in cutting vocals tonight. Getting closer to mixing this beast of an album they’ve created...
Upchuck in tonight cutting vocals. Getting close to closing up tracking on their LP. The always elegant KT brought her usual game and Chris Salado turned in a stellar vocal of his own. This band is going places!
