One of the most important things for us to know about the Lord is that He can’t be limited to only one expression.

God can reveal Himself however He decides to at the moment, we should not limit His expression to our own personal interpretation of who He is. We need to allow His word to shape our interpretation, not our interpretation to shape His word.

Don’t put God in a box, put ourselves in a box and wait for Him. Let Him teach us.

God can speak through many vessels- the fiery preacher, the calm professor, the curious child, the busy ant, the gentle rustling of the leaves and the crackling of the fire.

Don’t box Him in, box yourself in with His word and wait for Him.

Heads up: Going to church and reading the Bible are good, but none of it matters if you don’t actually know Jesus. There are many churchgoers and Bible readers who still don’t know who Jesus is—the Person of Christ.

Here’s a natural parallel to help make sense of this. There are many people who have heard about the President of the United States. They may know the laws he put into place, know where he lives, and even know his favorite book. But if they haven’t personally spent time with the President and gotten to know his character, ways, and private thoughts, then they don’t truly know the President of the United States. They know of him, but they don’t know him. There’s a difference between having knowledge of a person and actually knowing a person. To know a person is to understand their spirit, their life force.

There are many who know of Jesus, but they don’t know Him personally. To know Him personally is to know Him both in our suffering and in our rejoicing. Jesus is an actual Person who knows how to suffer and rejoice with grace. To know Jesus is to learn how to suffer and rejoice through grace.

That’s my little spiel for now.

With all the voices out there claiming to ‘speak for God’ these days, how can you discern who is genuine and who may be operating under a familiar or unclean spirit? You can’t measure them by their possessions. John the Baptist, considered the greatest of all men who ever lived, resided in the wilderness (see Luke 7:28). Likewise, King Solomon, one of the wealthiest men to ever live, worshipped false gods at one point during his reign (see 1 Kings 11:4). You also can’t measure them by influence or followers. An unnamed old prophet was used by God to correct another unnamed man of God (see 1 Kings 13). How can you tell who is truly speaking on the Lord’s behalf? This list is not exhaustive, but here are a few indicators and things to consider. Here are a few things to consider: - True prophets of God are usually not celebrated where they live and amongst family. (Matthew 13:57) - They have many acquaintances, but few friends. Some of this can be attributed to poor relationship skills with people, but also can be attributed to others consciences’ constantly being ‘poked’ due to the Presence of God on, in and around the person. (Luke 6:22-23) - Their lifestyle is one of consecration, devotion and obedience. Judge them by their actions and lifestyle, not just their presentation. (Matthew 7:16-20, Hebrews 12:14) - They are very cautious with their words because they understand the unseen power of words. (Proverbs 18:21, Matthew 12:36-37) - They love Jesus, like really love Jesus. They always point people back to God and their need for Him. (John 14:6, John 15:26) - They rely on scripture, not their own understanding. They don’t prophesy ‘on demand’, they take the word of God and the lives of people seriously. (Proverbs 3:5-6, Jeremiah 23:16) Keep Jesus in view. Keep your eyes on that cross. Don’t be led astray. #alphatalk

Pointing fingers at others won’t work when we stand before God, we can get away with that stuff down here for now, but later…. not so much. #alphatalk

Knowing Him and working for Him are two different things. Don’t make the mistake of assuming you know Him simply because you work for Him. It’s okay if you’re unsure about this right now. Just slow down and take your foot off the gas of ‘working for Him’ to ensure you actually know Him for who He is—not just by what you’ve done for Him, but by what He has done for you. They have this popular saying that familiarity breeds contempt, but this should not apply to your relationship with the Lord. Don’t let the cares of this world, past traumas, current tribulations and other other worldly concerns, stop you from talking about Him. God is good and is especially kind to those who love Him. It is a privilege and blessing to have His fellowship, not to be taken for granted. Regardless of the season you’re in, acknowledge Him and let Him guide you. He loves you and His love for you doesn’t go up and down based on your behavior or good deeds- His love is consistent and unchanging. He’s safe to love. #alphatalk
