The Pascagoula-Gautier School District community is heartbroken - Gautier High School Chemistry teacher Dr. Robert Smith passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024.
Dr. Smith engaged his students in the classroom, from hands-on learning to integrating his love of music. His students have lost an educator who truly touched their lives. Regarded as a dedicated professional, Dr. Smith believed in his students and challenged them to excel in his class. He’s remembered for his humor, creativity, kindness… and beard!
Dr. Smith always provided words of wisdom. Students say they always knew when he was close because they could hear the jingle of his keys, and they’ll always call their calculators ‘dumb boxes’ in his memory. In his own words: trust Dr. Smith, he was a chemistry teacher - if he didn’t have a solution, he’d make one up!
Our hearts ache for his wife and three children. He was just 49 years old. Dr. Smith’s wake will be held Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. His funeral will be Dec. 17 at Wade Baptist - visitation to start at 11 a.m. and funeral service at noon.
