Travel back in time all the way across the world in Ruyan Meng's novella ONLY THE CAT KNOWS—winner of the 2020 Red Hen Press Novella Award ⭐️

This story is a powerful and gripping allegory of an ordinary man trying to survive in the oppressive Chinese communist regime of the 1970s all while fixating on the only witness, a stray black cat.

Donna Hemans shares how "this honest portrayal of money and power and the many ways they weigh on our lives is timely and captures the sense of our current times". This debut was reviewed in Asian Review of Books, Soapberry Review, and mentioned in the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center.
