Citations For Good Samaritans
Last night, elected officials honored two good Samaritans at the Lake Shore Athletic Association. This video features ER nurse Erin Webster.
As Delegate Nic Kipke explained in a Facebook post, "During a playoff game, the OTHER team was fielding a routine pop-up and the catcher removed her helmet and was looking up, all the while the first baseman was charging for the ball as well. The girls collided with serious injury to the catcher. She fractured her nose and later needed five stitches. While this young girl, from the other team, was bleeding and in obvious pain, Erin immediately went to the girl's side and administered first aid and controlled the bleeding. Her fast thinking calmed the girl and her mother until paramedics arrived."
A citation was also presented to Bob Burns with the following explanation:
"At a recent tournament, a umpire was eating between games and started having problems eating and was choking. Bob, realizing what was happening, quickly positioned himself to perform the Heimlich maneuver. The food became dislodged and he started breathing properly again. He, in essence, possibly saved his life."
