We wanted to make you aware of an open letter being circulated that calls for AI companies to license the creative works they use to train their systems. Signatures are being assembled from across creative industries—musicians, authors, artists, designers, writers, photographers, actors, and more, as well as signatories from media companies.

The letter is more of a short statement than an actual letter. It provides that:

The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works and must not be permitted.

If you or anyone you know is interested in signing this statement, you can go to https://www.aitrainingstatement.org/ to sign it and your name will be displayed online along with a list of signatories as the campaign progresses.

If you see fit, please feel free to also share the statement and link with your colleagues, fellow creators, friends, etc. Importantly, for the time being, please do not post the statement on public channels at this stage.

We are upgrading! We will maintain our status as an HD studio and be updating our system to an Avid Matrix and M2 computer.

This decision is costly however with the cloudstrike debacle, my concerns with cloud apps and storage solutions in today's market, have been solidified.

Work for Hire Agreements are not always bad. If you are hiring a musician or engineer, it’s a good way to protect yourself from lawsuits down the road. They also give you permission to use there image for advertising the work they helped you create, which can be helpful, if they have a reputation or fan base themselves.

If you’re lucky enough to get a record deal or a sync licensing deal. You don’t want people coming out of the woodwork with their hands out, claiming “I made that song what it is.” Even if they did! But that comes with the territory when hiring studio players. The ideas they volunteer, become a part of your creation.

I’ve heard a lot of horror stories from people who rely on trust a handshake, as opposed to protecting themselves with a simple “work for hire” agreement.

Most producers/engineers will sign a work for hire agreement for 1% of the profits and a fee. Where as most musicians you hire for a studio work, expect them.

If you need a work for hire agreement drawn up for multiple players, hit me up, as a paralegal, I can create the basic work for hire agreement for you, and deliver them electronically for $10 each. Any agreements that require more detail, I would advice you consult with an attorney first.
