Mary Jane Carr passed to her Heavenly Father on November 22, 2024 at Potomac Place Assisted Living in Woodbridge VA. Burial will be at Macon Cemetery at a later date.

Mary Jane (Thompson) was born on December 17, 1929 in Moweaqua IL, the daughter of Ralph and Hazel (Bridgman) Thompson. She graduated from Moweaqua High School in the class of 1948. Shortly after HS she took a job at Staley’s Corporation in Decatur with the office secretarial pool and in later years as the secretary at Stephen Decatur High School. She married Bill Carr on September 10, 1949 in Paducah KY, with son David coming along September 1958.

To say she was a “people person” would be an understatement. She never met a stranger, at least not for long once engaging a wrong number caller for nearly 30 minutes. Family was always foremost in her life. She had a caring spirit and a giving heart. From her devotion to her husband of 75 years or taking care of parents, in-laws, or numerous family members for many years with a smile and grace. She cherished her son, his wife, and her two granddaughters, being blessed to see them grow to be adults. She was so happy and proud to be “GGma” to her great-granddaughter. She kept up with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, uplifting all with phone calls and cards, including her famous poems and letters until the end.

Some of her and Bill’s happiest times came when they returned to Moweaqua in retirement sharing a duplex with Bob and Barb Collins and rekindling life long friendships including Gerald and Norma Ringo with which they were nearly inseparable. For several years they enjoyed an active social life with the 45ers (members and family of the MHS class of 1945). She was a faithful member of First Christian Church in Moweaqua until moving to Virginia to be near their son. She will forever live in our hearts.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 75 years, William “Bill” Carr, Woodbridge. VA, formerly of Moweaqua; brother, Donald Thompson of Bloomington; son, David (Barb) Carr of Woodbridge, VA; granddaughters Emily (Eric) Pfautz of Severna Park, MD and Claire (James) Schnurr of Ft Worth, TX; great-granddaughter Ella Pfautz of Severna Park, MD; nieces, Pam Stegeman and Crys (Bill) Dithen of Bloomington, Donita Harrison of Dixon, Vicky Boyd and Julie Brady of Byron; nephews, Gary (Cindy) Thompson of Wister OK, Jerry (Jill) Bowers of Oregon, and Scott (Wendy) Bowers of Milledgeville; plus numerous great -nieces and -nephews.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Opal (Merle) Bowers of Dixon and Joann Miller of Bloomington; infant brother, Duane Thompson; nephews. Rick (Deborah) Bowers and Kevin (Debra) Bowers of Dixon.

In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Moweaqua or Peace Meals.

E. (Eliza) Anne Jones, 93, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL, for the past 31 years, formerly of Peoria, IL, passed away on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024 in Cape Coral, FL. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at Moweaqua First United Methodist Church, 222 North Hanover St., Moweaqua, IL 62550. The service will jointly celebrate the lives of Anne and her beloved husband of 70 years, Rev. Dr. James William Jones (Bill), who passed away on July 20, 2020.

Anne was born on April 11, 1931, in Moweaqua, IL, to Evelyn and Blanchette Snyder, now deceased. Anne was a proud Illinois farm girl who drove the tractor, prepared meals, and won Reserve Grand Champion for her steer at the Illinois State Fair. She adored her parents and brothers, Jimmy, Gwinner, and Michael Jesse. Anne was a cheerleader at Moweaqua High School and stayed a devoted friend to her high school best friends, twins Peg and Pat, for over 80 years. At Illinois Wesleyan University, she was a cheerleader and part of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. While there, Anne started dating the president of the student body, Bill Jones, and married him 7 months later. She then worked at a restaurant owned by her parents-in-law, State Farm Insurance, and the local Girl Scout office to put Bill through college and seminary. She dreamed of being a mother to boys but was not disappointed when their daughters Cindy, Deb, and Jan were born, who she parented with love and care throughout their lives.

She served beside Bill in ministry for over 40 years at these United Methodist churches across central Illinois: Center, Henton, Hammond, Quincy Vermont Street, Ashland, Clinton, Monmouth, Moline First, Decatur Grace, and Peoria First. Truly a hostess at heart, Anne enjoyed entertaining friends from around the world. In some cases, Anne and Bill hosted guests for a great meal they prepared together; in others – including beloved exchange student Anita Prather – guests became family and lived with them for years.

A very hard working and organized person, Anne did not like to sit still. She and Bill traveled whenever possible, visiting all the United States, and many trips to Palestine, Haiti, Singapore, Greece, and Europe. She loved feeding her hummingbirds at their A-frame home on Table Rock Lake in Missouri and fishing with Bill off Florida’s Gulf Coast. She listened to St. Louis Cardinal games on the radio faithfully. Anne added beauty to every setting she was in, including her homes, many church altars, and through gifts to others. Gratefulness filled her heart and was often offered through delicious baked goods. She also enjoyed playing the vibraharp and singing in choirs. Anne attended Cypress Lake United Methodist Church in Fort Myers, FL.

Her devotion to her husband Bill was complete. For over 70 years they supported, cared, laughed, and loved each other unconditionally. Anne shared this love with her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in strong and practical ways. In the last year of her life, dementia stole her sense of place and time, but not her memories of those she loved or her sweet disposition.

Anne is survived by her three loving daughters, Rev. Cynthia Jones, of North Fort Myers, FL, Deborah (William) Phillips, of Las Cruces, NM, and Jan Ellen (Jack) Morse, of Decatur; grandchildren, Elizabeth Jones, Rachel Jones, Julie (Brandon) Nalley, and Jared (Kara) Morse; as well as great-grandchildren, Benjamin Settles, Isabella Settles, Eden Nalley, Mackenzie Houston-Nalley, Eli Morse, and Eva Morse.

Memorial gifts in memory of Anne are suggested to the Preachers Aid Society (https://www.pasbf.org/) or the church of your choice.

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Roseman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went to her heavenly home surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024. A memorial service to honor Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m., at the Assumption Parish Hall in Assumption.

Born on February 17, 1944, to Walter and Eleanor Bradshaw in Norfolk, VA, Betty’s life was a testament of grace, love, and devotion. She married Jerry Roseman on June 9th, 1972, and they had 52 cherished years that they built together.

The heart of Betty’s legacy is her love for the Lord and her passion for serving others. She never met a stranger, and every interaction was marked by kindness, warmth, and sincerity. Betty found great fulfillment in her work at JCPenney, where she brightened each day for her colleagues and customers alike. To Betty, everyone was family, and she brought joy to all who crossed her path. Her love for hummingbirds was well-known, and now, each time we see one, we will remember her spirit that brought so much light and beauty to this world.

For 80 blessed years, Betty was a gift to those who knew her. Her faith, generosity, and compassion have left an imprint on the lives of all who knew her, and her spirit of love and service lives on in her family and friends. Although we miss her dearly, we rejoice knowing she has joined her Savior and is now in her forever home, welcomed by a heavenly celebration.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Jerry, of Decatur; children, Barb (Brad) Wilkey, of Maroa, Debbie (Kevin) Phillips, of Indianapolis, IN, Wayne (Wilma) Roseman, of Bakersfield, CA, Tammy (Tony) Johnston, of Moweaqua, Rick (Mary) Bradshaw, of Assumption, Karen (Adam) Sims, of Shelbyville, and Dawn (Colby) Etherton, of Concord, NC; along with her 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She is joyfully reunited in heaven with her parents, her sister Sharon, and by many more beloved family members and friends who touched her life.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
