We're giving a big round of applause to one of our AMAZING in-house Mental Health Therapists, Margot, who just received her PCIT certification!

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a behavior management therapy for children ages 2-7 and their caregivers. Developed 50 years ago, it is one of the most evidence-based behavior management therapies with over 300 peer-reviewed articles demonstrating its effectiveness. PCIT is designed for young children with aggression, oppositional and/or defiant behavior, hyperactivity, anger outbursts, emotional dysregulation, etc. PCIT utilizes play therapy and attachment principles to enhance the child-caregiver relationship in phase one and then teaches authoritative parenting strategies to maintain the warm relationship while also enforcing limit-setting in phase two.

Requirements for PCIT certification include a 40-hour training, one year of PCIT consultation calls, 4 video case reviews, and completion of 2 cases.

Congratulations, Margot!

๐ŸŒŸ A Night of Kindness & Compassion ๐ŸŒŸ
On January 29th, 2025, Deputy Mackenzie responded to a call about a lady walking around at 2 a.m. When he found her, it was clear she was struggling with dementia and couldn't remember who she was or where she lived. She mistakenly told him her name was "Robin," but after some searching, it was discovered her name was Esther.
Deputy Mackenzie didnโ€™t just drop her off and move on; he took the time to drive her around for over two hours, searching for her home. When she mentioned she was hungry, Deputy Mackenzie took her to Waffle House and even shared a meal with her.
Thanks to his dedication and empathy, along with the support of Dispatcher T. Carey, Esther was safely returned to her family at Gulf Breeze Hospital.
This story is a powerful reminder of the compassion that our first responders show every day. Thank you, Deputy Mackenzie and Dispatcher T. Carey, for making a real difference! ๐Ÿ’š

Wowโ€”yesterdayโ€™s snowfall was truly historic! We hope you and your family had the opportunity to make special memories together. โ„โ˜ƒ

Due to unsafe road conditions for both staff and students, all schools and district offices will remain closed on Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24. This also includes all afterschool activities, as well as before and after care programs through Community School.

We have been closely monitoring road conditions and ice accumulation in collaboration with the National Weather Service in Mobile and Santa Rosa Emergency Management. Any snow that melts today will very likely refreeze overnight causing hazardous driving conditions again on Thursday and Friday.

Thank you for your understanding, and we hope you continue to enjoy this unexpected time together! We look forward to seeing our students and staff back on Monday, January 27.

Our area has been upgraded to an Extreme Cold Weather Warning from 9 p.m. Sunday evening to 11 a.m. Monday.

An Extreme Cold Watch is also in effect from Monday evening through Wednesday morning.

* WHAT...For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 9 above expected. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 7 above possible.

* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to wind chills as low as 5 to 10 degrees. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause exposed water pipes to rupture.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
