It was a BLAST at the North Springs Music Fest recording Sam Lowe !! Sometimes I think we’re having more fun than we’re allowed to have making live records, especially when we get our campers and dogs involved!

Long post warning….

Laura and I were out this morning having for the 4th day in a row, and regularly for a couple of years, reflecting on recent conversations we’ve had with Vicki , a dear friend who’ve we missed seeing and talking with for a few years. But like true friends, we can go a few years without contact and pick up as if it were yesterday when we do touch base or get back together. Just like bees pollinate flowers or the wind blows to spread seeds or water, we come into each others’ lives for reasons we don’t know, and sometimes don’t know for a while. More on that, later, but for now, it’s just great to plan a visit soon to see each other!!!

I just finished helping Sam Lowe record and produce a new song he wrote, which he’ll release later; I’ll share it with you when he does. It’s total “ coincidence “ we met months before,because we were camping in spots across from each other and we both have the same kind of dog, and fast forward 3 months, we ended up producing a great demo of a brand new song, that’s ready for a next step when the time is right…

“Everything happens for a reason”, and the hardest part about that is, many times, the reasons don’t show themselves until after your belief of that saying is shown, and not said….

As we go through our transitions in life, like brand new parents to becoming empty nesters, opening acts to headlining shows, or renters to first time home buyers , its easier for us to enjoy it, if we believe that even the ‘bad’ things are helping us move into the right direction.

Don’t put a timeline on your dream, just don’t give up on it. The universe has a way of pollinating itself with friendships for us that are designed to help each other. As I tell my students, I’ll bet my next paycheck or two that most of the music, movies, and games we enjoy the most, are made from teams of people, not just one person.

Yesterday had the most sectioned layers of fog I’ve seen!!!! And the transitions into sunrise.

Can you imagine how heavy, hard and increasingly more difficult it would be to get around in the rain if our raincoats caught the rain and never let it roll off?!?! I’ve seen people “drown” themselves because of it.

Life’s “rain” and “raincoat” are like that, too. Let stuff roll off and it’s far easier to get from dry spot to dry spot!!

It’s been a few days since Laura and I got up for one our , but for good reason, which sort of sets the tone of today’s twilight picture.

Sometimes the road we’re on seems just a bit off parallel to what we’ve got our eye on, like this sunrise and the road, and we worry we’re going to miss that thing we want to see so badly, like the sunrise.

However, like this road, if you stay on it long enough, it dead ends into a nature preserve, to where one can view a sunrise or sunset in even more of a natural setting, without the road. Going down that road we’re on will get us there quicker than if we were to walk through that cow field, possibly getting chased or mucked up shoes, but it still gets us there….

Let’s remind ourselves that our road is our road and we rarely see over the horizon and until there is a crossroad to think about, you either blaze a trail or pound the pavement. Both can get us there, both are fine, both are needed, as well as, everything in between, like gravel roads.

If we trust in our judgement, heart, and thoughtful mind, while we use our virtues, diligence, and hard work, we will see that beautiful thing we’re looking for, only if we keep our eyes open, feet walking, and mind thinking.

This trust has made so many amazing memories that I could never have planned, and that’s the beauty of enjoying the journey without expectations and believing that wonderful things are further down that road we’re on!

When Laura and I went out an hour later for our , it was an amazing sunrise with a few different “scenes” that crept up on us, while giving us today’s message.

“90% of seeing a great sunrise is just getting our butts outside and being there. Life is like that, too. “

Whether you’re a hard working touring musician like Sam Lowe , a producer who’s a singer songwriter looking for talented people to work with, a talented trade person, teacher, doctor, athlete, artist, entrepreneur, or whatever, it’s about accepting and creating opportunities, because we never know what can happen if we just keep swinging the ax and sharpening it throughout the day.

Laura made my birthday the best one ever!!! A lovely time watching the sunrise at the cow field, a phenomenal breakfast and an amazing lamb chop dinner with a delicious trifle for desert while Riley came by!! I love you so much babe; thank you for an amazing day!!!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes and making the love shine through!!! Maybe we should do another piano bar soon…??!!??!!

I haven’t posted many of my lately, but Laura and I have still been going out most mornings that it’s above 49*F. So this one may be a long post….

I took these photos the other morning as the full moon was setting. I was thinking about our next stage in life as empty nesters, while talking myself out of being disappointed that I haven’t shopped my music in the last few years, because the stage in life I WAS in-was taking care of my parents in their last stages.

I wouldn’t have traded it for the world, and I realize what could’ve happened if I did trade it and get in the studio again; I could’ve been too busy to help them and missed it.

Later that day, I saw an old post from 2022 on FB about recording a song with dad. It was his first time ever working in Pro Tools and he was blown away. Although he wasn’t crazy about the song I wrote about him, he taught me more about writing for horn sections than I ever learned before!!! It’s called, “Old Man in the Mirror”, something he said while getting ready for his wife’s funeral. He passed 12 days later.

So January 25’s message was, everything changes, everything. I’m not dissatisfied or disappointed that I chose to help my family when I did because I know that things happen the way they should, and everything changes.

So I’ll be finishing my album during this next season of life, starting with , “Who in the Hell is That Old Man in the Mirror?”, which will eventually be the last song on the album, and I will also start shopping the current EPs along the way. I’ll put a link in the comments if you haven’t checked out the two song, seven minute EP music video!
