A few months ago, I planned a trip to North Carolina to spend time with my cousin at our family’s cabin. Unfortunately, right before our trip, a storm hit, leaving so many in and around this beautiful place devastated. We didn’t cancel the trip, and instead, I was able to gather a lot of supplies to bring up with me and check on everything here.

Yesterday, I met some amazing people who are boots on the ground in the most affected areas—sometimes they’re the first people those communities have seen in days. They’ve rented U-Hauls, driven four-wheelers up to the most impacted areas, and brought much-needed supplies like beds, chainsaws, and machines to turn creek water into warm showers and clean drinking water. The stories I heard were heartbreaking, but these incredible people are making a real difference. They aren’t being paid for their efforts—they’re just living the mountain way, helping each other out.

While I know Florida has also been hit hard recently and I want to help my home state, a piece of my heart is here too. If you feel moved to help, I’d love for you to share or donate to their GoFundMe to help spread the word and keep their efforts going.
