California State Parks Ranger Bryan Taylor talks about seeing water flow over the emergency spillway from the lake and the Spillway Launch Ramp on Saturday, Feb. 11.
The next day, Feb. 12, amidst worries that the emergency spillway was eroding, Oroville and south Butte County were evacuated.
In this video filmed April 1, 2017, Taylor takes a Mercury-Register photographer and reporter on a patrol of the off-limits area that is marked by buoys on Lake Oroville and extends about 500 yards from the Oroville Dam.
