LOCAL NEWSROOMS ARE INTEGRAL TO DEMOCRACY because democracy can’t happen without an informed public and the monitoring of county and town governments.

Studies show that where local newsrooms exist, residents are more likely to be connected to their community and more likely to vote — especially young people. Strong local news helps slow down polarization within communities. It’s even been shown that there is less corruption and wasteful spending of taxpayer money in communities with independent local newsrooms.
