“I have been performing with the great Sammy Figueroa but even being next to him it has been a school for me. This guy is a legend, he has played with so many musicians. So many years in his career. The way that he plays, I always learn from him. Every time I get the blessing to receive a call from one of these musical giants I feel humbled. I know this is His plan making a path for me to go to the next level.” - Kemuel Roig, our Latin Jazz Artist of the month. https://ow.ly/VbtI50RnAr5

Former President Donald Trump has won the 2024 presidential election and a second term in the White House, four years after losing the 2020 election to President Joe Biden, the Associated Press reports.

With his win over Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump becomes the first former U.S. president since Grover Cleveland in the late 1800s to return to the White House for a nonconsecutive second term.

Trump is the first convicted felon to be elected president in American history. A New York jury found him guilty earlier this year in an illegal hush money scheme intended to cover up a sexual encounter with an adult film actress before the 2016 election. Trump has faced three other local or federal indictments this year, including for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. He was impeached twice as president, but acquitted by the Senate in both cases.

At 78, Trump will be the oldest person ever inaugurated as president – a few months older than Biden was when he took office in 2021.

Quincy Jones, an iconic and prolific producer who worked with performers from Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson and left an indelible mark on American music, has died at the age of 91.

Quincy Jones, an iconic and prolific producer who worked with performers from Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson and left an indelible mark on American music, has died at the age of 91.

Jones’ publicist said he died Sunday night at his home in Los Angeles, according to the Associated Press.

He began his career in the 1950s as a performer, composer and music arranger. But it was his work as a producer, collaborating with other artists, that he became most known for. Jones won 28 Grammys and received 80 nominations.

Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” in 1964 and Ray Charles’ “In the Heat of the Night” in 1967 were among his most famous arrangement credits. Jones also composed more than 35 film scores, including “In the Heat of the Night” and “In Cold Blood.”

Jones was working on the soundtrack for “The Wiz” in the 1970s when he began his partnership with Jackson and had a hand in three of the singer’s major albums: “Off the Wall,” “Thriller” and “Bad”, music that would contribute to the soundtrack of the era. For the songs “Billie Jean” and “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” Jones and Jackson used disco, funk, rock, pop, R&B, jazz and African chants to create a soundscape that touched different parts of the globe.

At perhaps the height of his fame, Jones brought together musicians from across genres in 1985 to produce the charity single, “We Are the World” to benefit famine relief in Ethiopia. The song included Jackson, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen.
