Renovated my grandparents’ 1920s farmhouse which I inherited. They bought bare land here in southern Alberta in 1947, and they moved the original portion of the house here shortly thereafter. My brother continues to farm the crop land as we are now third generation cereal crop and hay producers.
This was originally a very tiny bedroom (8 x 11) directly off the kitchen, which I converted to a walk-in pantry. I wanted it to look like a General Store inside. The 9 pane door used to be the exterior door and is now the pantry access.
The farm sale poster is of my great, great grandfather’s auction and the yellow painted sign was from when my grandparents sold eggs. The old sewing machine cabinet belonged to my other granny. The leather post card belonged to my great grandmother… I could go on, but run the risk of boring everyone lol So I’ve really tried to pay homage to my family history and the past as well as incorporate them into the design.
I realize it would not be for everyone, but I’ve always had a fascination for old country stores and this was a way of not only having extra food and small appliance storage, but also incorporating it into displaying some of my vintage collectibles. I luv how it turned out; so if you don’t, just keep scrolling rather than trolling.

Our handyman just put in this backsplash and windowsill and this is the trim around it. I HATE it so much! Is super j***y plastic trim, and uneven and full of chunky grout blobs - especially at the top. He says this is the normal way to do it but I don’t remember seeing anything like this in other homes.
I literally spend HOURS at this sink every day and I want to cry because I hate it so much! What can be done to make this better? Also it might not show in the lighting of these pics but the windowsill always looks like it needs to be cleaned no matter what I do because it has clear smudgy streak marks that won’t go away. I think it’s marble. I’m ready to have someone else tear out and redo the entire kitchen I just paid to have redone unless I get some ideas.

****Lol...let me edit to add***..my husband just put sound bar up yesterday, he left all the cords undone. The TV is centered to the wall not fireplace bc that's what he did, hopefully I can make him change it. 🤞🤞And all pots are up on mantle because our 2 year grand-daughter just spent the night. 🤣 Same for the plants, they're not in their usual place.
The TV can not be anywhere else, we have a rectangular room, other 2 walls.. one is giant windows, the other a half wall. And the back wall has a coat closet & is the hall/walkway from front door! So unfortunately the ugly TV stays on blue wall.

Sound bar...it can be mounted under TV? How? I hate all the cords as well.

Blue wall.. I'm currently shopping wallpaper, LV is blue & yellow, cool colors. We just purchased a slate blue leather sofa set to replace a cream colored one so blues will stay in LV.
And he hates the stones, I dislike the concrete mantle & we plan to replace it with wood eventually. Someone suggested painting the mantle, i like that! What colors would you suggest?

We have this very ugly fireplace door, I hate it. My husband refuses to get rid of it for a newer better looking one, says this is heavy, it's great blah, blah. We've agreed to painting it, I'm thinking black. Does anyone have experience with painting these & could recommend a type of paint? I believe it's probably brass. 🤔

I am really struggling with these tiny staples, I have tried pliers, floor staple removers, pry bar. But everything is too big to fit the staples or it gauges the floor. Any ideas what to try next? Im a small person and dont have enough strength to just pull them out.

Help me decide on paint color (walls are primed I know they look awful lol). Couch is going to be light cream.

I’ve been helping my mom clean out her 1937 bungalow on the Texas Gulf Coast ahead of selling it, and today we called the attic “done” after pulling one last reachable mystery bag that turned out to be my dad’s Vietnam-era Air Force uniform.

This house was built by my dad’s grandmother and 3 generations chucked stuff up here without ever taking it back down. I wish I could get to all of it but the wood planks crackle if you try to put weight on them now and are not very stable, and neither Mom nor I relish the idea of one breaking under us. I have no idea who got the beautiful radio up here — or how, since the ladder down is in a space so tight it had to have one leg shaved to keep it from hitting a wall.

This was a real time capsule - we found playbills from trips to Broadway, comic books, Life and Time magazines, a NASA pamphlet from before the first moon landing… and lots and lots of gecko eggs. SO MANY gecko eggs.

Edit: To everybody saying to keep going on it, I feel you and wish we could! Mom’s not able to do the gymnastics at her age, I have some health concerns that make me unable to do a lot more, and we aren’t willing to risk the liability of day laborers (it would be EASY to get injured), and with moving expenses and everything there just isn’t the $$$ for a bonded company. We’ve pulled everything that’s in the layer from the last ~40 years and the whole house was near-hoarder-levels of stuff in every room when mom inherited it so we’re not without family history! Mom’s selling as-is and her agent says it’s fine, though we may contact an estate agent about it as some have suggested. But in the meantime I’m only here for a week and there’s a whole house to pack, so we have to prioritize.
