The bill dismantled diversity, equity and inclusion departments across Florida universities and colleges.

“Colleges seeking to benefit from Black talent must invest in the education of all Black students without question,” Dr. Ashley L. White, an Education Fellow at the NAACP said.

UCF student, Seif Asi, is facing legal action after allegedly making antisemitic threats toward a group of students demonstrating in support of Israel on Jan. 23. His lawyer said “legally there is a difference between a comment and a threat. We will see if comments were made that rise to a level of a legal threat.”

Students connected to the incident speak on what they witnessed and how they feel UCF’s response was.

Following the incident, UCF Chief of Police Carl Metzger encouraged students to “come together to condemn hate and violence” after recent hate crime on campus.

The Made@Home Cinema Club hosted their second short film festival, “Homesick,” showcasing 15 student’s short films ranging in genres. Each of these young filmmakers gathered together Friday to share their work and celebrate their art at the Enzian Theatre.

“There’s a really good, consistent quality that I haven’t seen at other film festivals, even if they’re a lot bigger film festival,” junior film major Blake Erickson said.

UCF will begin construction on the $70 million Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion with anticipated opening set for fall 2025. The building will offer a multitude of teaching spaces including labs and virtual reality education.

According to the Florida Hospital Association, Florida will face a nursing shortage of 59,000 nurses by 2035. The new campus will make space for more programs, students and teaching opportunities with donations aimed to address this issue.
