“First Snow” by John Darley
“This was painted after we had our second child, a little boy named Jude. There is a field before you get to American Fork Canyon with tons of longhorn cattle that we had always loved. I primarily paint portraits and people. Painting a landscape didn’t seem particularly appealing to me, until I realized it was my son’s first time seeing snow. Watching him feel those feelings that come with seeing snow for the first time? It became something I needed to paint.”

Our founding editor, was able to attend in person while Martha Hugh’s Cannon was installed at the U.S. Capitol as one of two statues to represent Utah (replacing Philo T. Farnsworth and joining Brigham Young).

Martha was the first female senator elected in our nation. Her influence is giant, even though she was only 4-foot 11. A physician who ran as a democrat and beat her husband in the race, Martha’s historical impact is giant.

Jeanette hosted the statue’s sendoff in June (second photo). We are so proud for Martha to represent our great state in the Capitol!

About the artist:
As a young boy, David Dibble would wander the fields of his family’s farm in West Layton. He grew up immersed in a world where man and nature came together through farming. David remembers spending time working with family, walking in the fields and exploring barns. It’s only fitting that now, David’s fine art mainly revolves around farmland-scapes, wood paneled barns, and big-tired tractors.
David completed his BFA in illustration from BYU in 2003, and his MFA in illustration from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2008. He now paints full time out of his well-lit, peaceful backyard studio in Orem.

Soft and Quiet” by Bryan Mark Taylor
This painting emphasizes the beauty in the everyday.
Bryan drove past this particular scene located in Alpine almost daily. The opposition from the tree standing tall next to the fallen tree represented the loveliness of opposition in all things.
“In life there is joy, and there is pain,” Bryan says. “There is warmth, and there is cold. You can’t feel happy without feeling sad. You need both things in order to feel the full scope of what life has to offer. This painting is a reminder that it’s okay to allow yourself to feel the full scope of human emotion. But, as always, the beauty of art is that each viewer gets to decide what they see.”
Because Bryan is often painting on location, as exemplified by his work in this piece, he invented his very own easel. When artists are traveling from location to location, they need a reliable and easy-to-set-up easel. You can find this invention and get one for yourself at StradaEasel.com.
