Kudos to HHA members Howard Green, Becky Cline, Floyd Norman, Paula Sigman-Lowery (HHA board member), and Stacia Martin for sharing their Disney history expertise with employees of The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. The group joined Gregg Sherman, son of composer Richard Sherman, in commemorating the 60th anniversary of “Mary Poppins.” Howard Green also joined Tim O’Day, also an HHA Board member, and others in producing a recent musical tribute concert to Richard Sherman at the El Capitan Theater. Thanks to all for celebrating Disney history as an integral part of Hollywood’s history!

This Thanksgiving week, we’re grateful that ABC News is devoting two hours to Disney history with its new program, “The Untold Story of Mary Poppins: A Special Edition of 20/20,” scheduled to air Wednesday, Nov. 27 ahead of a 60th anniversary broadcast of “Mary Poppins” the following evening on ABC.

We’re also thankful for our network of members who work with families of Disney talent and private collections to preserve pieces of Disney history, such as this photo signed by Oscar winner Julie Andrews and inscribed to Jamie Walsh after a visit to the film’s set. Jamie’s father, Bill Walsh, went on to receive Academy Award nominations for producing and writing this beloved classic for Walt Disney.

As we celebrate Disney history on primetime television this holiday week, Happy Thanksgiving from the HHA Press. We’re grateful to each of you for supporting our work and publications!

Actor John Whitaker, known for his performances in Disney’s “Napoleon and Samantha,” “Snowball Express,” and “ The Biscuit Eater,” as well as the title role in 1973’s “Tom Sawyer,” was among the visitors!

Retired Disney artist, author, and musicologist Russell Schroeder has just released some newly licensed and authorized Disney sheet music pieces, including “It’s the Simple Things,” “Old Trusty,” “Happy Go Lucky Fellow,” a folio of music by Max Steiner for “Those Calloways,” and a “Lost Chord” by the Sherman Brothers called “Whoever You Are” from “The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin”!

Russell is a longtime supporter of the HHA Press, so we encourage Disney music fans to check out these and other rare Disney music that he has officially licensed and published. You may purchase these pieces directly from Russell on eBay by searching for the titles or the user name “pintopony_66.” Kudos to Russell for sharing these tunes with new generations of Disney music fans!

Now that “Walt Disney and El Grupo in Latin America” has been released, our authors are hard at work on the sequel, which should be released in 2026: the monograph “Walt Disney and El Grupo in Mexico and Cuba (1942 - 1944).”

In the context of that fascinating research, Didier Ghez unearthed this photograph, taken on December 17, 1942, when Walt visited the offices of the radio station XEW.

It features the Mexican artists Toña “La Negra”, Pedro de Lille, and Sergio Torres. Sadly, it will not be included in the monograph since it was sold at auction in 2017 and we have been unable to locate a high resolution scan. We thought you may enjoy seeing this rare image since similar rare photos will be included in this upcoming publication.

Authors Didier Ghez, JB Kaufman, and Ted Thomas were joined by Ed Ovalle from the Walt Disney Archives in sharing new discoveries, artifacts, and rarely seen photos alive in new publications!

HHA Press co-editor JB Kaufman and fellow HHA member David Gerstein worked years on their new Donald Duck book following their equally impressive Mickey Mouse edition from a few years ago. From the look of these preview images, this upcoming Taschen release will truly give us the Duck’s Ultimate History!
