Fourth District County Supervisor Bob Nelson, representing Orcutt, has been elected 2025 vice-chair of the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments, a regional planning agency providing planning to address regional and local transportation needs. It is composed of representatives from the county and cities. On this years agenda: funding to finish the completion of the HW 101 corridor through Santa Barbara, hopefully by 2028 and planning for state Highway 166 improvements. Santa Barbara mayor Randy Rouse is chair.

This coming week, the January edition of the Orcutt Pioneer will be in mailboxes. Some of the stories you may be interested in include an update on the Solomon Hills project, a separate community proposed between Orcutt and Los Alamos of 4000 homes, retail, school, fire station and post office. Also a report on Orcutt Elementary and high school testing, the intersection of Lakeview/HW 135 rated highest accident rate of any in county and the Orcutt Christmas parade looking for volunteers.

Recently the Santa Maria Planning Commission approved the Plane's of Fame Air Museum's expansion to the Santa Maria Airport for construction of four air craft hangars totaling almost 200 thousand square feet plus office space south of the Radisson Hotel. Planes of Fame is one of the oldest aircraft museums in the nation, established in 1957. The collection features about 160 historical aircraft and will be a public event support area for the fall Central Coast Airfest.

Ben Humphrey, representing the Solomon Hills development proposing 4000 homes, presented a $1000 check to Friends of the Orcutt library Tuesday, Dec. 17. The funds pay for furniture and supplies for the local library. In the photo receiving the funds are Betty Gunn, President of the Friends of the library, and Carol Cregor, Vice President. The Solomon Hills project proposes, according to their website, "distinctive neighborhoods" surrounding a "vibrant village center" including schools, restaurants...even a post office and a trails system. The developer has previously donated $20,000 to Oasis Center.

Ouch, the Orcutt Lions club, due to high percentage chance of rain, have cancelled Saturday's Orcutt Christmas Parade. 50 entrants all disappointed, but Santa will not get wet in Orcutt this year.
