Watched Gemini Man, 2K/HFR/3D. Another interesting and experimental movie from . Still a pretty inconsistent experience, yet many movies that are made with very high technical demands are a great/good/bad roller coaster ride. The movie is tackling MANY technical challenges, and consistently nailing only a few. There are, of course, some shots/sequences that are spectacular. IMHO, the overall end result of is a lot better than 'Long Walk' yet also unsatisfying. If the goal was to create a movie that exemplifies why movies should be seen in the theater, then one would think that the movie should be possible to see in the native format, but alas, this is not the case, at least in the USA. Puzzling...
The 3D presentation was supported by plenty of light, and the sound was very good. Acting performances were sometimes good, but the dialog was sometimes no better than that of 1980's action movies. There were a couple of CGI close ups that were stunning, but also plenty of CGI rendering and speed of movement shortcomings. The higher the fidelity factors of the production, the more that needs to be invested in perfecting the perceptual package. I wonder what the movie would have been had they spent $250M on production and post. Maybe better, as solving the issues they faced may have been more completely solved with a bigger budget.
Of course, had they used DVP instead of 3D, they could have saved a ton of production cost and used that to gain more consistent results with the CGI. The most compelling technical advancement, that I appreciated, was what the package acheived with regard to the spatial and temporal quality results of the motion capture.
