History records that it was noted "Big Beat" New Orleans drummer and member of the Wrecking Crew, Earl Palmer, that coined the phrase "funky."

However, it's Trombone Shorty who's swingin' it these days.

He can play the horn. He can sing. And that's made him the latest musical star of a great New Orleans tradition. But Trombone Shorty mainly just wants you to...

Fats Domino, Ska Music, & The Monkees

As a top recording artist, Fats Domino was the target of many songwriters, including Tommy Boyce. In late 1959, Domino recorded a track by Boyce, Be My Guest.

Known for its off-the-beat rhythm, Be My Guest is considered to be a foundational and influential song in SKA music. It was also Boyce's first chart hit.

Tommy Boyce would later partner with Bobby Hart and write hit songs such as Theme to The Monkees TV show, Last Train to Clarksville, I'm Not Your Stepping Stone, Valleri, and Gonna Buy Me a Dog. The songwriting duo appeared on TV, including Bewitched, The Flying Nun, and I Dream of Jeannie.

Tuned in Sunday to hear our Spotlight Show on Fats Domino and the multicultural music of New Orleans.

Spotlight on Fats Domino and the music of New Orleans.

Tune in next Sunday as we explore the music and legacy of Antoine "Fats" Domino. An inspiration to The Beatles, the man who sold over 110 million records, encouraged Elvis to play Las Vegas, #25 on Rolling Stone magazine's top recording artists, and the spiritual Father of Ska music!

New Orleans is an amazing mixture of Black & White cultures, including French, African, Spanish, Italian, Creole, Cajun, Native American, and African American.

Remembering Michael Bloomfield (July 28, 1943 – February 15, 1981), an amazing blues guitarist. He played a prominent guitar on 1965's Highway 61 Revisited and performed with Dylan at the famous/infamous Newport Folk Festival that same year.
