Meet Dean Magana, one of our Data Analytics Interns!

Dean is a Computer Science major at Creighton University, originally from Uganda. His interest in data analytics began this past summer during an internship, where he was tasked with creating two PowerBI dashboards, which sparked his passion for the field.

Dean co-leads a Bible study club with a friend on campus, helping university students grow closer to God. He is also an avid fan of Manchester United and the Baltimore Ravens.

Meet Benjamin Andersen, one of our Full Stack Developers!

Benjamin was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Midland University with a degree in Business Intelligence Technology, which gives him a unique perspective on businesses, as he understands both the business and technical sides. He has experience as a full-stack developer for JavaScript and backend expertise in SpringBoot and MuleSoft.

His journey into software development began with the encouragement of his family, who motivated him to take a risk and pursue a challenging and rewarding career, keeping him inspired and driven for growth.

Since graduating, Benjamin has discovered new passions: cooking, working out, and spending quality time with friends and family. He is also the proud owner of a wonderful Aussie Husky named Whiskey, who is his loyal companion during his workdays. Benjamin is excited to join the team and contribute to expanding the vision of PTV.

CLARIFICATION NOTE:
We do want to add to one topic addressed about 5 minutes in on this Part 2 recording where we discussing the Winner Take All polling results. Our current data reflects that Nebraskans want the system to stay the same where each congressional district's final results are each reported, and NOT becoming a Winner Take All state. We will continue to poll for this topic as time goes on especially as it may be brought up in the January 2025 legislative session which would be the next opportunity for our elected officials to attempt to change the current method. Our Founder, Heather Nelson, was recently interviewed by journalism student and reporter with The Omaha News, Jenna Janssen, about the influence GEN Z will have on the November 2024 election and more in-depth, how this generation is seeking voter information and predominantly through their preferred news source, social media channels.

Nelson, who is also a professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Business Administration teaching in the Marketing & Entrepreneurship department, shared her observations.

One of the reasons the team launched the Poll The Vote platform is to give people a trusted civic engagement tool to obtain factual information quickly, taking positive steps to combat misinformation often found through social media; but sometimes very hard to identify credibility. Exciting news! Our founder, Heather, has officially graduated from the Opportunity Corps: Women in STEAM program! Over the past 10 months, she had the amazing opportunity to learn and grow through mentorship and workshops in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.

A huge thank you to UNeTech Institute with Stephanie Kidd, Bio Nebraska, Nebraska Tech Collaborative with Megan Bell and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation for making this possible.

Another thanks to Heather's mentor, Nancy Williams, who guided her through the program and her team.

Heather is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to deepen her leadership skills and connect with such inspiring women, whose insights and experiences have been truly invaluable. Here's to empowering women in technology and entrepreneurship!

We were excited to have been a part of UNO Constitution Week, celebrating National Voter Registration Day with some amazing college students!

Michella took the lead in interacting with the UNO students. We had a blast hosting a table where we shared what our company is about while handing out shirts and Poll The Vote cookies! It was so exciting to observe the next generation of voters and how excited they are about the upcoming election.

A special shout-out to Toni Monette with UNO Engagement Office for inviting us and making the event such a success! We’re always grateful for the opportunity to connect with the community, and we’re looking forward to more events like this in the future!
