Hi friends, Omaha Guidebook is taking a fall break!

I’ll be totally AFK for the next few weeks to touch some grass and look at a mountain and remind myself that there’s life outside of screens 🤪, amongst other things! So if you send me an email or DM, I won’t see it until next month.

See you in November! 🫶

DATE IDEA: cocktail tasting

Location: Anna’s Place Omaha (21+)

You’ve seen me post about Anna’s Place before — it’s no secret I’m a fan of theirs!

Anna’s Place is an (independently owned) speakeasy hidden inside Hotel Indigo in downtown Omaha.

Every month Anna's Place hosts “a cocktail thing” where you can get a sneak peek of all the new drinks coming to their menu before anyone else gets to try them. Pair that with small bites from The Pie Fairy and short stories about how each cocktail came to be — it makes for a great date, whether that’s a friend date, romantic date, or whatever.

The next event is on Oct 27th and there are still some tickets left. Snag yours on their website soon cause seating is always very limited! The theme this month is Brothers Grimm, so it’s sure to be a fun way to kick off the week of Halloween 👻🥃

Thanks to Anna’s Place for our tickets to last month’s event!

Then right next to the shop is the garden center, where you’ll find annuals, perennials, shrubs, and more seasonal items. Don’t miss the plants behind the garden center or on the side of it too!

Right now Arlene's Gardens has a 50% off sale for all pottery, pumpkin decor, and perennials/tropicals — stop by soon so you don't miss out on this!

They also host workshops and other events so keep an eye on their social media to know what they’ve got going on.

Thanks to Arlene’s Gardens for sponsoring this post!

Just be aware that some doorways inside may be a tight fit for a wheelchair — but the main area inside the shop would be accessible. The garden center next to the shop is on woodchips and does not have any steps.

Omaha Restaurant Week starts TOMORROW!

This is the perfect excuse to find a new favorite spot to eat around town 🍲

From September 13th-22nd, FIFTY local restaurants are offering a 3-course dinner. Part of the proceeds goes to Food Bank for the Heartland, so you’re not just enjoying a bite to eat. You’re dining for a cause.

See visitomaha.com for a list of participating restaurants at the $20, $30, $40, and $50 price points — along with their menus.

Thanks to Visit Omaha, we got a preview of Omaha Restaurant Week at The Tenant. Their entire ORW menu can be made gluten free (yay) and it was so delicious! Of course we had to check out their rooftop bar while we were there 🥂

09/11/2024

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a roundup of spots in town with gluten free options! This is part 3 of my favorites — see the rest of the list on our website.

1. Jackson Street Tavern
2. Clio - Omaha
3. Veg.edible
4. Blue & Fly Asian Kitchen
5. Cumbia - tapas bar & restaurant
6. Salted Edge
7. Good Lookin'
8. Saro Lounge

Here’s your guide to Chocolaterie Stam - Papillion

Location: Shadow Lake Towne Center

Need a little pick-me-up? I’ve got the perfect spot for you!

At Chocolaterie Stam, you’ll find European chocolates (made in DSM) and gelato (made in-house at the Papillion location), plus a drink menu so you can grab a coffee, tea, butterbeer, or hot chocolate while you enjoy your sweet treats.

Among the chocolates we sampled, I OF COURSE had to try the chocolate shaped like an ear of corn.

For my friends with dietary restrictions — Chocolaterie Stam marks their dairy free items and marks which items contain gluten. They also have a selection of sugar free options. Because of the way the items are handled and stored, there is a risk of cross contamination, so you’ll need to decide whether or not that works for you 🤍

Thanks to Chocolaterie Stam in Papillion for sponsoring this post!

🚙 Parking
Plenty of free parking here! You can park along the main road through the shopping center. Or park in the large parking lots surrounding that.

🚌 Metro Bus
Route 93: Stop 2077 Washington & Centennial Rd NW (1 hr walk)

📣 Accessibility
Chocolaterie Stam is accessible. There are no steps to get in or around the building. And the few seating areas have tables that are at an accessible height while using a wheelchair.

Here’s your guide to Wenninghoff Farm's farm market

Location: north central Omaha

The Wenninghoff family farm has been a staple in the Omaha community for locally grown produce since the ‘50s!

Their farm market is open July through October and carries more than 40 varieties of produce and herbs, plus other goodies from local vendors. They also have a you-pick flower field and a kid zone with a play area and petting zoo. And their greenhouse is open in the springtime. This is a great spot for an authentic, family-friendly farm experience right in town!

Thanks to the Wenninghoffs for sponsoring this post!

🚙 Parking
There’s a small (free) gravel parking lot right in front of the market.

🚌 Metro Bus
Route 5: Stop 1203 Crown Point Ave & Wenninghoff Rd NE (17 min walk)

📣 Accessibility
There are a couple paved wheelchair accessible parking spaces at the end of the gravel parking lot. The market itself is on concrete so it is accessible.

Anyone else obsessed with pickleball lately? 👋

We made it our goal to play at all the pickleball courts around town to find our favorites. Here’s the first one!

PICKLEBALL COURT #1: Englewood Park
Location: Millard

✅ Outdoors

✅ BYO paddles + ball
❌ BYO net

Here’s your guide to Blue Sky Bar & Patio.

Location: Regency Landing

Looking for a fun (and family-friendly) hangout spot? Add Blue Sky to your list!

This spot has:
• 2 pickleball courts
• Mini bowling with bob & willie's wonderbowl
• Full bar
• 2 food vendors (Noli's Pizzeria - Regency Landing and Cheeseburgers - A Take-Out Joint)
• Indoor & outdoor seating

🚙 Parking
There is a free attached parking lot with plenty of parking.

🚌 Metro Bus
Route 4: Stop 3631 Regency Pkwy & S Regench Cir NE (25 min walk)
Route 15: Stop 2029 108th & W Center NE (33 min walk)

👕 Typical Attire
I saw people wearing a wide variety of casual attire — shorts, t-shirts, etc. People playing pickleball were wearing athletic clothes. As always though, wear what you like and what you feel comfortable in!

📣 Accessibility
There are no steps to get in or around Blue Sky. The tables (minus the bar) are low enough to be accessed while using a wheelchair. The bowling lanes at Wonderbowl are also low enough to be accessed while in a wheelchair.

08/10/2024

Here’s your guide to bob & willie's wonderbowl.

Location: Blackstone District

The Wonderbowl location in Blackstone is 21+ at all times. (Under 21? Check out their location at Blue Sky Bar & Patio in Regency!)

I looove Wonderbowl for a fun activity any day of the week. Even if you’re not mini bowling, this is a cool spot to hang out and grab a drink, play pool, or relax on their patio.

Thanks to All Together Hospitality Management for sponsoring this post!

🚙 Parking
There’s metered street parking in Blackstone, along with free street parking in the neighborhoods to the north and south. Here are a few other off-street parking options:
• Free parking spaces north of Nite Owl
• Free parking lot on 41st and Farnam Streets (after 5pm & on weekends)
• Paid parking lot north of Crescent Moon
• Paid parking lot south of Cottonwood Hotel

Be aware that there is currently construction happening in the area because of the apartment complex + parking garage being built right across the street from Wonderbowl.

🚌 Metro Bus
Route 15: Stop 1984 38th & Farnam NE

👕 Typical Attire
I saw people wearing a wide variety of casual clothes — jeans, tshirts, dresses, athletic attire, etc. As always though, wear what you like and what you feel comfortable in!

📣 Accessibility
Bob & Willie’s is accessible. There are no steps to get inside the building and the mini bowling lanes are low enough to be accessed while using a wheelchair. The space around the lanes can get a little crowded when all the lanes are being used, so you may want to opt for a lane on the end if you need extra space. There are a handful of tables inside that are low enough to be accessed while using a wheelchair.

As for the patio, there is no step to get outside to the patio — though there is a step to get to the lower half of the patio, which is on turf. The concrete half of the patio is accessible and there were two tables on this half that are low enough to be accessed while using a wheelchair.

The summer menu has arrived at Anna’s Place Omaha and it’s a hit!

🍌 Banana Split

These floats won’t stay on the menu forever, so go try ‘em out before they’re gone.

Thanks to Anna’s Place for having us out to sample the summer menu!
