A heads up!

Today is the day! The annual voluntary statewide tornado drill being held on Wednesday, March 20th at 1:00 pm. We hope the tornado drill begins or continues a broader conversation about emergency preparedness regarding:

🔹Do you have a plan?
🔹Where will you go?
🔹What will you do?
🔹Do you know the alerts, warnings, and notification systems in your area?
🔹How will you communicate?

Visit Eaton County Emergency Management and Eaton County 911 for more info.

By Bridgette Shroll
Come have fun this Saturday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in downtown Olivet for the annual Oli-Ween event with games, treats, and a chance to win prizes.
Hosted by the Olivet Community Chamber of Commerce, this event is meant to bring the community together and allow voting for your favorite fall decorations that have been set up by local Olivet businesses. Winners will be announced on Oct. 27.
The businesses who participate will have a chance to win an ad in The County Journal (first place), a box of business cards (second place), or $10 in chamber gift certificates (third place).
The poster for this event states that this is going to be “Halloween fun for all ages at your local Olivet businesses.”

NEWS IN OLIVET!
Seasonal Inspirations Gift Shop
Coming Soon!
We're excited to announce that we will have coffee and baked goods available coming in August. We are working out the details but will begin with some basic coffee, muffins, brownies, and cookies. This is all part of our long-term goal to expand to have a small kitchen with a lunch service. The project and process will roll out gradually but we are excited to add this offering for our community. We hope you will be patient as we continue to progress with our plans. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

Olivet College experienced a traumatic event today, Oct. 20, at approximately 7:15 a.m. when a Dole Hall second floor bathroom caught aflame. Students rushed out of their dorms to safety after somebody pounded on their doors alerting them of the situation. From there, students grabbed what they could and rushed out into the freezing cold weather. Inside Dole, white smoke filled the air along with dozens of scared faces. Once outside a resident advisor led students to the Kirk Center for warmth and food in order to be comforted during the rough situation.

Oh! The "O" in the OLVET is missing again. Located on Blair Lawn, it welcomed Homecoming participants beginning Oct. 7, but was vandalized by Monday morning.
This picture is of the Saturday morning Homecoming parade, featuring the band, cheer squad and football.
Other signs that lined Main Street to remind drivers and walkers to practice safety also disappeared over the last month or so.
