So, Where is this Dry Slot Mike Morgan is forecasting today?
The National Weather actually officially describes a dry slot as a cloud free area, among other things but I will let that suffice. So what does a REAL dry slot look like? The first satellite pic is of a winter storm many years ago. The dry line is picked out and well define being sucked into the center of the surface Low.
Here is the Regional Visible satellite. One, there are no cloud free areas and there is no well defined surface Low. But help me ! I may be mistaken but do you see a cloud free area in the Texas Panhandle or Oklahoma?

TV Weather people's Snow forecast
Mike Morgan KFOR: 8" Last night he had 2-4"
David Pain KWTV: 4-7" Last night 4-7"
Damon Lane KOCO: 3-6" Bates said 3-4" last night
Jeff George Fox25: 3-4" last night 3-5"
National Weather Service: 3-5" same as last night
These number are from their graphics NOT what they say because Morgan was all over the place with his amounts and what he was saying did not match what he had on his graphics.
Also all this talk about dry slots is just that ...talk. Its to get you to watch and is silly. The reason why western Oklahoma and points west will see less snow then east of I-35 is simple.. Gulf moisture return is a max from I-35 east. No dry slot.

Winter Weather Watch #10....Updated model snow forecasts.
The NBM is an interesting model. It takes all the models in the domain of the United States and is an average of all models in the domain. Great model to filter out weird stuff.

Weather Advisories...Updated Noon Tue...No surprises. Winter Storm Watches are being converted to warnings and many NWS Snow Forecasts are up a few inches.
Personal recommendations. Because of some reckless comments by KFOR and KWTV, I recommend you watch KOCO-5 or Fox25 for your Live Weather coverage tomorrow and Thursday.

The OKC National Weather Service has upped its Snow Forecast to 3-5" while Tulsa has a forecast of 1-3" Thats climatology and that forecast will verify 80% of the time. Tulsa NWS is notoriously known to under forecast.

No Dry Slot...Here's why.
Another name for a dry slot, one everyone is familiar with....DRY LINE. During the spring we deal with such high temperatures compared to the winter. The best measure for a dry line is dew points. BUT!! In the winter, ALL dew points are Low as are the temperatures. But, snow formation is dependent on Relative Humidity not Dew points. Dew Points are so low it looks like dry air.
Consider this. A 29F dew point is extremely low. However when the air temperature is 30F that gives us a Relative Humidity of 95%, almost saturated and perfect for snow formation.
Dry slots and dry lines always come from the west or southwest and are pushed by southwest / west winds at the surface or aloft. Neither are present here. . The dry air originates from the dry Texas Panhandle or New Mexico.
Watch the video. These are the gridded points of surface Relative Humidity and watch them change over 48 hours. You can see a surge of blue thru Texas and Oklahoma ahead of the cold front. The arrow is pointing at the cold front as it progress south. Dry air is the orange and browns. We have dry air in the Texas Panhandle early but notice how those moisten up behind the front. If we had a dry slot we would see the brown area move out of the panhandle and into Oklahoma. That does not happen. Thus no dry slot!!
Now look at the 850mb Relative Humidity for the same time frame. The darker blue is considered saturated. If there was a dry slot we would see a large area of brown again coming from the Texas Panhandle...Not happening. This analysis took me 5 minutes. But when you know no better and you haven't sat in 2 Dynamics Courses at OU, the two non meteorologists then make foolish statements.
We may not se the 12" of now the GFS once forecasted but it will not be a dry slot as the culprit.

Newest Snow Amount Forecasts....Two of our non meteorologists in OKC TV Weather are calling for a dry slot to come thru Oklahoma. They never said when, timing is of great importance. I don't see a dry slot on any model. I do see three of the 4 major models backing off the snow a little tonight. What I see are jet streaks and the jet stream farther south. This does not cause a dry slot but does restrict the amount of gulf moisture advection. In a dry slot we see an actual area of no snow or rain and many times the air is so dry we actually see the sun.
Here are your 4 model forecasts as of 10pm tonight.

I thought Damon Lane and Jonathan Condor were the Oklahoma City TV Drama Queens but now we have Mike Morgan treading onto their once exclusive stage. I do not know what prompted this comment. Its obvious he is pi**ed off at viewers saying they dream of heavy snow, or wished for a storm like this and want the dry slot to stay away. I have no idea what the "Hats" comment means. Mike like the rest of us is getting older and is becoming more susceptible to "Brain Farts". But this is the particular embarrassment to professional TV broadcasters. He is not a Meteorologist. He has a Geography degree. He could not hack the Calculus and Physics of a Meteorology Degree and took the easy route. In one breath he says Oklahoma will see a dry slot then before he can completely exhale he says all of Oklahoma will see a Blizzard. This type of fence sitting was the exclusive territory of Emily Sutton. That fence is crowded now.
He did this because this is a typical "Likes" w***e post to get you to like or react and stroke his ego. The real sad thing is he doesn't have to do this. He is Oklahoma City senior weathercaster. He has creditability in that stature. In the past two years the clown at KWTV has taken the top spot in OKC Weather, even though he did not earn it. Mike is feeling pressure to justify that huge salary to pay for his lawn trains. To bring dry slot into a conversation when no model has a dry slot is just unethical. But then again when has ethics been a characteristic of Oklahoma City Television. Facebook Meteorologists are by far much better than any of the make up wearers. We interact with the public and answer their questions. We also explain the weather. For the TV people you can't explain what the weather is doing or why when you don't know yourself.
