Just imagine you hire a lawyer to help you in your cannabis business. Then, said lawyer starts telling you all about the "grey area" and how you can increase your sales--that area where the law is not detailed enough because it's a new industry. Said lawyer tells you not to worry because that same person will defend you in court. Do you think that will be free? Do you believe your monthly check to your lawyer covers criminal law? It doesn't. Criminal defense is much more expensive.

Let's look at an example. They tell you that you can do delivery to your customers. So you give it a try. After all, it's the lawyer's job to keep you legal, right? Is it, really?

So you have an extra budtender come in and do delivery. You have them use their own car and you cover the gas. Or you just toss them your keys and say, "Be careful." You talk about getting a delivery vehicle, but you need to see if there is enough demand to justify such an expensive investment.

He or she pull up to the house to make the delivery. The door opens and a cop is standing right in front of your delivery driver. Now your budtender has been arrested for a felony. Because what might be a grey area under one law can be a felony under another section of law. And then OBNDD shows up to arrest you as the business owner. They also impound the car.

Now it's time to call that lawyer who told you about the grey area in the first place. You tell them about your troubles and about the felonies now facing you and your employees. Not to worry. For a retainer that same lawyer who told you about the grey area and called OBNDD to tell them what you're doing will defend you in court.

Are you starting to see it? You were warned repeatedly.
